“They were a better football team than us. They had more talent,” Indians coach John Belskis said. “They do a good job getting kids from the north suburbs coming to their school.”

Also, their football twitter blocked Loyola’s.....thought that was somewhat comical.

Minooka clearly overrated and over matched.

How is Minooka overrated? Nobody really hyped them up did they? They put together a nice season in fairly weak closed conference. I don’t think anybody picked them to win state or anything.

I see nothing wrong with their coach calling it like he sees it and honestly wish more people did that. Now the blocking of the twitter is a little childish, unless Loyola started talking trash first. Official twitters affiliated with a school should avoid smack talk.

Right, just going by the seedings-14 v 19. I’ve always admired and respected Minooka. Just thought Belskis comments were a little backhanded.

Also, the “twitter block” was unprovoked.

Well we all know the seeding system can only provide us so much. Is oswego really the 3rd best team in 8a? Probably not. But that’s what the seeding system says so we go with it then come on here and debate lol.

I don’t know their current coach, just a lot of the players. Majority of people I know from their are class acts.

LA doesn’t do that.

I’m not really seeing anything backhanded about his comments they were pretty truthful. Loyola has a strong program and kids want to go there 10-15 years ago that wasn’t the case.

This is a great program but let’s remember Loyola is not the team they were last couple of years. I am not sure how to read how good they are by beating Minooka.

Let’s see how OSwego vs Loyola goes. If Oswego can pull it out - it salvages some respect for the SWP conference who got humiliated in every game except OE who actually played a competitive game (but lost).

He made a head scratching quote in the Joliet herald preseason preview too. Said he expected a state championship if not this year then in the next few. While it obviously makes sense to have a high goal, I thought it was setting itself up for failure for a team in the 8a field that's not a blue blood. Particularly for an athletic program that has one baseball semifinal and two football semi appearances as their best results all time in the 3 big boys sports.

Not faulting his lofty goal. Just a head scratcher for an 8a school with a history of underachieving.

That said, they should have a good year next year. And that's without their former best athlete in the senior class who is now at JC. So it is good to see them being more competitive.

John Belskis?
I think he was misquoted.
What he actually said was “What’s wrong with you people? I just want to retire!”

He's not the first one to make comments like that nor will he be the last. While his statement was truthful, so was the implication. When you can't get the job done against a Catholic school, it's always nice to have comments like that on which to lean. What's not to like?

Belskis has had an axe to grind for years against Catholic schools. He doesn't like MCHS at all too.

This is comical. Lookoutforliam had no intention of sending a congrats or he would not be here today starting this “odd” thread. Must have had a bad experience with BigBrother contestants, or got lost going to the game last night in Edgyville. I will get the popcorn and watch.

Again I'm a bit biased just for the fact that I sent two kids to Minooka and I live here etc. (as I mentioned on the live IHSA TV preview show "I'm a bit biased since I live in Minooka so that's why I'll take Minooka to beat Loyola" knowing full well it was a reach but I stood by it regardless...anyways all I can tell you is that Minooka started 19 underclassmen last night...has a very good young core who I feel will make noise in 2019. State title winning noise? Again a bit of a reach but they will be very strong and Loyola HC John Holocek said the exact same thing to me 5 minutes after the game last night so....and Minooka rebuild that damn field and facilities NOW.

Edgy...keep it quiet. No quality football has ever been played south of I-80. I want to enjoy the North/ Far South banter.

Unrelated: In regards to the brackets, I believe Pleasant Plains advanced in 3A. That was not recorded in the 3A bracket challenge as of an hour ago.

A congrats/ great season/ hats off is sent to the opposing team on weekly basis. I simply found it odd A. That the Minooka football twitter handle blocked me and B. Coach’s comments. Other than that, all great things for Minooka. So, to all you Minooka fans, congrats on a great season. It’s looks like a bright future for your team.

In the big picture, not a big deal.
