UConn is making 3 pointers and Rutgers is shooting bricks.Stats have relevance in close games but not blowouts.

Well, some stats always are relevant, although the important ones vary from game to game. The turnover stat wasn't important, which is why I said it was odd.

And, while UConn shoots threes well in general, I think last night's performance had a lot to do with Essy being out.

I disagree. I know BAC said it a lot during the game threads. Rutgers isn't playing bad at all. It's just missing shots and UConn is just being that dominant. It's nice to be able to pick a positive from the stats even in a blowout and know that turnovers didn't add to the headache. But I guess on the other hand I sort of wish it was a fixable thing like a turnover problem that led to the loss, because otherwise there's not much hope for future matchups until the next four years of players move in. We played pretty well and still lost by a ton.

Missing the team's point guard and best defensive player the whole game, with the best post hobbling and with two players who hadn't had significant roles on the team getting big minutes.

Now, I don't think RU wins the game even with none of those issues, but I do think there's a decent chance it would have been meaningfully closer.

Do they keep stats on how many FGs were attempted with either a foot on the 3 point line, or within 18 inches inside the 3 point line?

I also think that's what forced us to play zone rather than man, and that put us at a disadvantage both guarding the three and rebounding.

Points well taken. We're definitely not 30-40 points worse than UConn when we're at full go.

And even if we were still 10-15 points worse than UConn, with a close game or win now and then ... that's still better than 95%+ of WBB teams in the country.

I believe Rutgers lost 3 games to UConn last season and they were by 30 or more points. The bottom line is that Rutgers 5 best players all healthy still are no match for UConn. If you don't believe me ask South Carolina who were ranked number one prior to getting destroyed by UConn. Its talent and depth that can't be matched right now along with the best head coach.
