Conventional 3-point play at buzzer pulls Belleville West to 34-30 at halftime. SE just seems a half-step quicker, which is giving the Maroons issues.
I have another commitment coming up at 8 p.m., but will try and post a final if no one jumps on the thread.

Game is apparently over. Video feed is back showing J-V game. VIdeo ends with West up by one with 1:54 to go.

Max Preps Xcellent 25 drops West to 12 and Currie up to 15. Their computers have Currie at 17 and West at 30.

USA Today has Curie 21 and West 22, followed by Shadow Mountain, who whooped West, at 25.

AP has West 1 and Currie 2 in the state. Bogan tops 3A - then MP, Springfield SE*, ESL and then others.

STILL NO LOVE FOR ALTON!!! Not even an also-ran vote. Look who got a little 3A love: Others receiving votes: DePaul Prep 17, Lindblom 15, Carbondale 4, Farragut 2, Kankakee 2, Sacred Heart-Griffin 2, Highland 1, Taylorville 1.

Alton would kill them all.

Collinsville only got 2 "others" points in 4A.

This is ludicrous!

* West and SSE play Saturday - streamed on NFHS.
Alton and Collinsville are amongst the best teams in the state. They deserve some respect.

From the bnd.

COLLINSVILLE
In the latest edition of the Associated Press Class 4A boys basketball rankings, the Collinsville Kahoks earned all of two points.

That’s despite owning an 18-3 record.

Make that 19-3, following their 68-35 demolition of the O’Fallon Panthers on Friday night at Virgil Fletcher Gymnasium.

“They should,” said O’Fallon coach Brian Muniz, asked if he thought the Kahoks deserved more state-wide recognition.

“They came so close to winning their own tournament,” Muniz added. “Our conference has four teams that are just fantastic. Any of them can compete with anybody in the state.”

The victory was the sixth in a row for the Kahoks. Their last loss was 65-62 to Springfield Southeast in the title game of their own Collinsville Holiday Classic back in late December.

Southeast was ranked No. 3 in Class 3A in the latest AP poll.

The Kahoks’ other losses came against East St. Louis, which sat at No. 4 in Class 3A, and Alton, whose 14-8 record is skewed by suspensions (AND FORFEITS) related to the brawl which took place early in the season.

“All three teams that beat us, we had down in the fourth quarter,” said veteran Kahoks coach Darin Lee., whose team is 4-2 in Southwestern Conference play. “But outside of Southeast, we’ve got all of those teams to play again. We just need to get the job done when we see them again on our homr Floor.”

Collinsville will be the team to beat next year but so far they have lost to every good team they have played and the only quality win is against Lincoln. All the other teams they beat are not good this year at all.

Collinsville lost to ESL by 3 points, Alton by 2 points, and Springfield Southeast by 3 points. I think it's safe to say that they are also one of the teams to beat this year. Like the article says, the SW conference has 4 teams that are amongst the very best in the state this year and Collinsville is one of them.

The discussion is about ranking correct? Who has Collinsville beat? So far the discussion is they should be ranked because they had close loses to three teams. I’m not saying Collinsville isn’t a good team, I am saying they haven’t beat anyone to date which is why they aren’t rank. It is what it is. They the next three weeks to prove differently with games against Alton, BW and ESL.

Take a quick look at there actual schedule and you will understand the lack of consideration for ranking.

I've already taken a look at Collinsville's schedule as well as the teams from the bottom half of the top 10 in 4a. Collinsville should have more than 2 votes. Plus your comment about "next year" insinuated that they aren't good this year, which was what I was responding to.

Team to be next year because West is the team to beat this year.

Also who in the Bottom half of 4a that Collinsville is clearly better than? I don’t know much about Moline but the rest I am familiar with.

Now you're changing the argument. I don't recall saying that Collinsville was "clearly" better than anyone. I said that they are amongst the best teams in the state (top 10). Any team in the top 10 could arguably beat any other team in the top 10. There are those that I would favor over others and that includes Collinsville. I would favor Collinsville over some of the teams in the bottom half, but not "clearly." Again, Collinsville should have more than 2 votes.

I don’t have an arguement. I stated the reason why they may not receive votes for top 10. Apparently you didn’t agree which I respect your opinion. You brought up the bottom half of the top 10 not me. They have a weak schedule and no signature wins at this point. It’s understandable how people may not vote in their favor.

ESL lost to West by 4 and beat Vashon in which both were in the top 25. Should ESL receive top 25 votes? Absolutely not.

For some reason you took what I said as a negative statement. It’s all good.

Your comment insinuated that Collinsville wasn't that good this year. You clarified that you didn't mean it that way, but then made it about who Collinsville is "clearly" better than. I think that they deserve more than 2 votes and you don't agree. No big deal, we just agree to disagree.

Eville is winless in the conference - West will be barren next year. ESL returns some kids and Collinsville does too.

The SWC 2020 season will be mighty different from this one.

Collinsville has everyone returning except for the kid number 23 I think.

Collinsville started two seniors against O'Fallon. Marshall Harrison, a 6-3 forward/guard, who is their second leading scorer at 12.9, and Zane Baker, a 5-11, guard, who doesn't put up big numbers but seemed to do a lot of little things. Helping on defense and scrapping for loose balls.

Against ESL they started the two big boys down low. I would assume they will do the same thing against West. The baker kid came off the Bench.

These high hopes - and I'm guilty of stoking flames - may end up as heartbreak.

No doubt, West is good. But they can be lazy. Somewhere above, there was talk of Max Christie and a quiet 29 ... EJ whispered 29 the other night, most points coming at the stripe. NONE beyond the arc, where he wishes he could shoot.

He added a dozen boards and six blocks - but here's the thing - if he can't swat it, he takes the play off and not contest ... maybe to save fouls, I don;t know. AND most of his fouls come on the offensive end.

A few years ago, Jayson Tatum DOMINATED. The only person to check him was Jordan Goodwin, who was a year younger. Last year, Jericole Helms of Chaminade DOMINATED - he's now at NC St. last year, the best STL area team, Webster Grove, they had Ramey (Texas) and Carte'Are (SLU drop out) who DOMINATED ... when not suspended.

There are nights when EJ is not the best on his team. There were nights when Donavan Clay of Alton beat him heads up.

Right now, West does not look great. They could be, but I think they need an ***-chewing to start every game instead of having to make up ground after half time each night.

Last note: SSE coach moaned about fouls called - I watched the game with an eye for that, he was just moaning after his team got beat.

You are spot on which is why I say there is a tough road ahead.

SE coach typically don't complain about much so he must have pretty frustrated. I will say that EJ is very aggressive when blocking shots and charge a lot but, it definitely did not cost them game.

I watched the game after I read his comments in the STL Post.

Thomas wasn't always happy with the officiating.

"EJ shot more free throws, probably, than our whole team together," he said. "When you're on the road, you get those kind of calls. We expected it. There were times we fouled him, but when you play 32 minutes and only get three fouls called against him, and he's a physical player - whatever."

Liddell was 15-for-18 from the free-throw line. Southeast was 15-for-18 from the line. The Maroons were 26-for-35 on free throws.

SSE, as noted by Collinsville coach after the holiday tourney, fouls A LOT. They did this night too - BEFORE the shot, so a lot of one-and-ones. The Maroons hit the front end of theirs.West had 20 fouls called on the, - SSE did not report their stats for the box score.

I specifically looked for "questionable calls" - maybe one each teach and only one Thomas reacted to visibly - and he was wrong, in that instance too. This is a fair game - called straight.

EJ did JACK someone. SSE was pressing - he took the inbound at about the three-point line (right wing) and pivoted inward for an outlet pass - his elbow and *** knocked a dude three feet!

It must be going around. Rock Island publicly complained about the refs in their recent game against Alton.

Is it possible that the tough schedule has worn them down a bit? They seemed to be playing at a higher level earlier in the season. Now at times they seem to play not to lose and just get though the game. Could be tired.

I’m sure there is the stress of havin to be perfect. A loss at TOC sucks but any other is devastating. Only a title can satisfy.

That will take a toll.
