SSE up 29-25.

Late half surge by SSE after Clay sat down with foul trouble.

Clay runs the point, breaks the press and plays the top scorer of each team. String bean who covers the court in a few strides. I really like his game! He carries this team.

SSE jumps them at the start of the half - 36-27 with 6:07 in 3q.

Alton playing sloppy at times. Quicker than SSE though.

Alton three - 36-30 now.

Alton ties them at 36 with 2:00.

Free throws by Alton will kill them. Meaning their misses.

Alton up 40-38 with a minute left in 3q

Then a SSE three. Alton bad shot - SSE transitions and scores.

43-42 SSE after three.

Big three by SSE. - box and one SSE - foul or carry??? Called the 4th on Clay.

56-53 and SSE is holding. 1:42 left now.

Hit a foul shot - and the second.

58-53 with 85 seconds left.

SSE inexplicably fouls ... scoring with the clock stopped.

58-55 now.

It looked like they missed that over and back call in that same series with the carry. Good game though. SE seemed like the more consistent team.

Didn't see it, but West only won 55-49 and were down by four during the third quarters. Maroons continue string of close wins against not-always stellar opponents. Could be ripe for an upset tonight against Simeon.
Simeon (13-13) may not be what they have been in the past, but it's still Simeon.
There was talk out of the Chicago area after last season that Simeon was still the best team despite West winning 4A.
Their grounds for that was the Public League title in some ways means more to the Chicago teams than a state title, so they were vulnerable to loss when they played Whitney Young for a second time in the super.
Tonight, in a way, would be a chance to for the Wolverines to prove they were the better team.

A team from outside of the Chicago area could win 3a and 4a for the next five years in a row and I doubt that the Chicago area would recognize them as the best.

Tied at 19 5:34 2q.

Brazil with a three, his 4th. 22-19 west 4:58.

Simeon seemed to be trying to run some clock with under 3:00 to go. Steal, layup and foul. Missed FT, but Randolph takes charge at other end.

West up one with under a minute... Randolph shooting FTs at 42. ... Makes 1-2, 44-42. West fouls defensive rebounder.
Simeon at FTL. ... Makes 2-2. Tied with 30 seconds to go. West time. ... EJ working for last shot with about 5 left. Loses control of ball. Simeon inbounding at midcourt with 2.5. .. Horrible shot from over 1/2 court. 45-45 free basketball.

Question for those who may know....

I haven't been to the state finals in over a decade. If I decide to go this March, can I get tickets at the door?

Last time I went I dont remember it being full and I've heard the IHSA is having disappointing turnouts of late, an obvious development when they eliminated the best matchups by doubling the number of classes. Am I correct in assuming there is no need to advance order?

Big three at the buzzer outs west over Simeon by one.

Liddel had 20+ and 10 boards and a couple of blocks.

I watch every year and every year it seems pretty empty. I can't imagine them turning away ticket sales at the door.

West came out like a dog - with intent. EJ with some dunks, Brazil two two threes ... then EJ went down, Simeon jumped ahead but the Marrons kept fighting.

Their physical presence was the difference. Randolph and EJ were getting hammered on the blocks and still got some to fall and hit a good amount of free throws.

If they have one hot shooter, it’s hard to beat them.

Next up is Collinsville, ESL, Collinsville again and Alton, plus a couple other conference games and I think CBC again.

They won’t grt fat before the tourney.

The definitely won't get fat, but will they be exhausted? That's a tough schedule leading into the tourney.
