My wife and I are going to NYC next week and I wanted to see if anyone had any good tips on bars, restaurants, things to do, etc...besides the obvious stuff of course. We're in our mid twenties and like beer and sports if that means anything. Btw, we already have Braves/Yankees tix!<div>
</div><div>Thanks for the help 17ers!</div>

Breakfast:http://www.clintonstreetbaking.com/ But go early

No words: http://www.groundzeromuseumworkshop.com/ Buy the tickets ONLY from the website. I was so moved by this place that I contacted the owner last year and convinced him to do his first speaking engagement in several years on campus last year to commemorate the 10 year anniversary. You will not regret this two hours.

If you're a church going fella, take in services at the Brooklyn Tabernacle. It's awesome.

If you're hitting up Broadway, check out Memphis. Seen it twice. It's awesome.

Not hard to find a good restaurant in NYC.

Restaurants:<div>
</div><div>Brunch - Balthatzar in SoHo or 44 and X (on 10th ave in Hells Kitchen)</div><div>
</div><div>Breakfast - Clinton St Baking Co in the Lower East Side and some place around Chelsea that is known for their belgian waffles (the name escapes me)</div><div>
</div><div>Lunch - There is a badass Halal Truck right by the Met Museum of Art. Get the hot sauce on your lamb.</div><div>
</div><div>Dinner - Too many to count, but Aureole, Craft, and Craft Bar are all excellent. Craft Bar is probably my favorite and is in the Flatiron District.</div><div>
</div><div>Pizza - Lombardis downtown</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>Bars - whatever you can to from your hotel.</div><div>
</div><div>The food in Yankee stadium blows btw and a beer is 8-10$. But the stadium is right off the 4 line.</div><div>

I'm never up early enough for a real breakfast place when im on vacation, so for that I have no idea.<div>
</div><div>For lunch, I would recommend catching a cab (or train if you are venturing on the subway) to the Chelsea market. There are a lot of different places to eat in there, from an all organic restaurant to an ice cream shop. They even have a seafood market there that will steam you a lobster for a very reasonable price. Last time we went, a few of went and split something at 3 or 4 different places. It was awesome.</div><div>
</div><div>For dinner, if you want a nice place you will have to have a reservation. One of the best "name" places I have been that lived up to the hype was Rooster's in Harlem, which is owned by Marcus Samuelson. But like someone else said, it isn't hard to find good food in NY.</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: I agree completely with the Peter Lugar's guy. You can literally cut those steaks with a spoon. But it is cash only, and you need a lot f it if you are planning on drinking anything while there. But it is well worth it.</div>

can't go wrong with Carmine's. They serve family size portions, which is what you want if you can get it because everything in NYC is really expensive. This place actually makes what you're paying worth it. And it's REALLY good food. Large food and drink selection. Best place I went to hands down.

Check out Gaetano's. Classic family run Italian restaurant and bar. Great food and atmosphere that's not too expensive.

Resto has probably the best burger I've ever had, and a very nice beer list with a wide variety of hard to find (at least in the States) beers. <div>
</div><div>There's an outdoor rooftop bar at 230 Fifth called, appropriately enough, 230 Fifth. It has great views of the Empire State Building and the rest of the skyline, and there's no cover, though the drinks are pretty expensive.</div><div>
</div><div>If the Mets are in town, I'd recommend a game there, as well. I liked Citi Field a bit more than Yankee Stadium.</div>

Who mentioned grimaldi's for pizza. It is fantastic. I would add though, go to grimaldi's, but walk the bridge to go there. Great experience. You can get ice cream, drinks etc once over there and take it all in. Then hit up grimaldi's and prepared to be knocked out. Subway back home.

We took "The Yankee Clipper" from midtown to the game- its a ferry that picks you up in mid-town. Nice boat ride; beer on board and it takes you to and from the game- if you are going to a game, would definitely suggest this route. For food, best lunch I've had was the lobster roll at Pearl Oyster Bar, and I had the best sushi I've ever had (and its not close) at Sushi Yasuda. Get a late dinner @ Momofuku Ssam Bar and for actual dinner, I would strongly suggest Il Tinello (Italian), Cafe' d'Alsace (French), and if you want the best overall dinner in NYC regardless of price, go to Le Bernadin. Sunday brunch @ Clover Club or Bar Boloud. <div>***Edited to add the Yankee Clipper was apparently cancelled, so ignore first sentence</div>

Best tip I have for you:spend some time studying the subwaysystem in advance of your trip, and take advantage of it.It's inexpensive and incredibly convenient. It's not the most intuitive system in the world, but if you spend a few minutes on the NY transit website before you go, you'll beglad you did. You can get a card for $29 that allows you unlimited subway rides for 7 days. Easily the best investment I made on our last trip. If you don't do the subway, you'll wear out your legs walking or wear out your wallet on cabs.

Others have mentioned Shake Shack. Outstanding burgers and great shakes; not bad prices for Manhattan. Lines at all hours and tough to find a table at the location on 8th and 44th.

Frommers (www.frommers.com) has a great suggestion that we've done twice: take the subway to Brooklyn, eat a pizza at Grimaldi's, have ice cream at The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, and then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan at twilight. Spectacular views. I highly recommend this, but Grimaldi's wasn't anything special on my last visit (I had a great meal there two years ago). It's not bad, but not worth standing in line for an hour. Patsy Grimaldi (former owner) is opening a new restaurant next door, and there's another pizza joint just down the street.

John's Pizzeria on 44th between 7th and 8th is very good;outstanding pizzas for $20 or less for a large; pasta dishes for $15.

Gray's Papaya at 72nd and Broadway has my favorite hotdogs in New York. They have a "Recession Special": two dogs and a drink for $4.95. If you go to the Natural History Museum on Central Park West and 81st, it's a scenic stroll from there to Gray's. 72nd Street subway station is right across the street from Gray's and there's a nice park to sit and eat your meal. You can then hop on the subway to get back to Times Square or wherever you're staying.

Take a stroll through Little Italy. The restaurants on Mulburry Street have outdoor diningin the summer, and some of the streets are closed to traffic in theevenings. It's a nice scene. If you walk the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan, you'll end up near Chinatown and Little Italy.

Estimate how much cash you think you'll need for the trip, and thenmultiply that amount by4, or plan on frequent ATM visits. The good news is that ATMs are everywhere. Many places (including the subway system and Grimaldi's) are cash only.

If you go to the Empire State building, spend the extra fewbucks for the audio recording device. It will tell you what you're looking at from different points on the observation deck and is well worth the extra money. If you haven't been to NY before,I recommend that you do the Empire StateBuilding or Top of the Rock early in your trip. This will give you an overall sense of the place. It's hard to describe, butthere's something like sensory overload when youarrive in Manhattan for the first time.

St. Patrick's Cathedral on 5th Avenue is beautiful. Take twenty minutes and stroll through it.
