Personnel - 15% (would be 30% but half of our personnel problems go to the coach for not recruiting well)
Coaching - 75% (Croom has never managed the game well, hasn't recruited well, hasn't adapted until it's too late, QBs always seem to regress)
Scheme - 10% (Again, I would rate this higher but it goes back to our coaching.)

Bottom line is that the coaching is holding us back, or maybe doesn't know how to go forward.

I think coaching goes back to the other two at least to some extent. It's up to the coaches to find good players and develop them. It's also up to the coaches to use an offense that they can effectively teach and the players effectively learn.

Let's look at the two offenses that Croom claims we are running:

The WCO- Worked well for the 49ers when they had Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. For us, not so well.

The spread- I'm going to assume that we're trying to run a little bit of the spread option for clarification. Worked great at WV with Pat White and Steve Slaton. For us again, not so well.

You could ask the same question about Georgia Tech and the answer would be the same, but that doesn't stop them from putting together a pretty damn good offense.

If we had better offensive coaching we wouldn't be having this discussion. Playcalling has been a problem with us for years, as has been our QB coaching (or lack thereof). As far as talent goes, we don't have the greatest talent, but I don't buy the argument that a big part of our problem rests here. We have as much talent as we have had in years this season on offense. Yet what do we have - regression at QB, poor playcalling and gameplanning, not playing gamebreakers enough, etc. Give this group to competent offensive coaches and we are 3-2 if not 4-1. Scheme and talent aren't the problem, coaching is.

Based on the question, I just don't understand how any reasonable person could put less than 20% of the blame on personnel. I would put it 70% personnel, 25% horrible gameday decisons, and 5% schemes.

We are starting a walk-on at QB and our best 2 WR's are both walk-ons. With Green out, our TE's are horrible and Green is a freshmen RB recruit. Have any of you paid attention to our tackle play this year? You have to be kidding me.

Now the reason we are in this position falls on Croom, but the question as I understand it, is just talking about this year's performance. Not the how or why.</p>

I think we are strong at the WR and RB position. QB is a lot to be desired but as of last week is serviceable and our OL is weak. I am not sure if any scheme really fits our team to a tee but what we are doing now - and producing 15 points/game is not giving sufficient results. I really don't see how it could get much worse. Versus 1A opponents, we are averaging 11.75 points/game.

I don't think we should try to pound the ball. I think we would do a lot better with 4-5 WR sets and trying to get long plays on short passes. Use McRae, Robinson, Smith and Bell and get them the ball. I'd use Pegues as a slot WR/RB.

Because Dixon is a great talent, I would try to work him in occasionally on runs up the middle, which hopefully because we'll be spreading the ball out, there won't be 8 men in the box.

I still would bench Saulsberry and go with Gates/Jenkins at RT.
