Sooners heavy favorites again and the PAC12 is moist dog poop. Still our first test on the road.

Defense with a few minor gaffs on the first drive then buckled down with stops behind the line.

Place is packed!!! How embarrassing for the PAC 12. I think the whole west coast should just give up football no wonder we get recruits from there the players want to play in front of actual people.

The California schools may just create a whole new non NCAA division with that bill

Know it's frustrating but we're going to give up points and plays.

If you can't see the vast strides already taken and sink into 2012 through 2018 every time something isn't perfect, it's going to be a long, game, season, and life as a sports fan

Really can't gauge the defense until Tech it would seem. But as Huard and other analysts have pointed out, the changes are already obvious. Lined up every play. Guys where they're supposed to be. And effort.

Yep, not going to be a top tier defense this year but who thought they would be?
Some fans are impatient sure but it will take time to get them where they need to be. It just sucks that it took this long to make the long overdue changes. We will get there!

Agree but that drive the D broke down giving up to many yards on 3rd and long. However overall as you stated at least they are lining up correctly

Offense looks good sometimes and sometimes just awful.
Needed to score on that drive, 3 and out.

At some point this season the lack of discipline by our players committing stupid penalties is going to cost OU dearly.

Good win Sooners, keep improving and we might make a run.
Where did Lamb go? Only one catch tonight I think.

Getting better or getting by. Riley and Grinch have tape for positives and negatives while blowing out another opponent and a bye week.

For all the rah rah about speed defense, we sure seemed to be back on our heels on D. This against a pretty marginal offense. Tackling was bad and I was having flashbacks to 2018. This team D is truthfully inconsistent and would seem to be still the leaky bucket. Get some fire in the belly please D. You can say hey we gave up just 14, but it was a flimsy 14. A better team like Tech could push us on to that angry edge...

A nice win on the road.

And I'm pretty sure our defense is better than last year. Our front seven might even be a little above average.

Secondary still looks a little shaky though, especially at safety.

Yep, I have to hold my tongue when the D takes the field. I know its not an overnight fix but if these guys have not figured out how to tackle by now they never will.
Need time to recruit better defensive players and that won't fix it overnight either.
Gonna take a while.
At times I feel like Jalen is the only offense we have. Some of the other so called talent on offense needs to step up.
I don't know yet what to make of this team so far, 3 cupcake wins is not very telling. We will know soon enough I guess.

I'm starting to get it now. When one of our guys break a tackle, gets open and makes a catch, or makes a defender miss, it's a great play. When one of their guys breaks a tackle, gets open and makes a catch, or makes someone miss, it's because we're ****.

This will be extremely helpful for me to better understand going forward.

I think this mentality is carryover for umpteen years now. We are like oh crap here we go again

Old habits die hard. When the D takes the field I leave the room and come back when they are off the field. What does that tell you?
That tells you that I have seen enough of the crap D that OU has put on the field for so long I don't wish to see it anymore.
I hope one day I can watch an OU defense again and not yell at my tv.
Why this pisses off so many Sooner Fans to hear this amazes me. Been going on so long us old dogs have a looooooooooong memory.

OU's defense is still not where it should be, but in watching last night's game, I saw a lot of defensive players utilized and from this it seems to me that Grinch is slowly....and steadily....building the kind of defense and depth he wants and that OU needs. Some young linebackers made some nice plays and the linemen showed glimpses of promise. Looks like the secondary is the biggest concern now.
It was also nice to see two FG's made and most of the kickoffs were not returned. Siebert has spoiled us, but OU should be okay with its kicking game going forward.

V I think for the most part there are times that we see flashes of the old D on the field and it causes us concern. That 3rd quarter the D simply didn’t play well. Even Riley said something along the lines that they are getting better as the seemed to sustain the intensity a little while longer this time.

However against teams like Baylor, Texas, and a few other very good offenses it is going to require 60 minutes of intense D play. So far OU outside of the Houston game OU hasn’t really played a great offensive team. If you watched the Was St - Houston game you would have seen a WSU team that played a full 60 minute all out D intensity. ( Well at least 30 minutes of the time when they were on D).

It is only natural for us as fans to say “ hell tackle someone, quit getting stupid PF penalties, and don’t give up 3rd and 21 1st downs. No doubt this D is much better but it still has a ways to go to make most of us feel comfortable that this D is ready to be a shut down D.

Hurts takes what's available and sometimes gets a touch greedy (IMO) but he distributes accurate long balls for TD's to the stars and the TE's regularly. The D is slowly progressing and showing great signs of growth. We can win the semi against Bama or anyone not named Clem. We may be a year away from that level

Hurts doesn't outrun tacklers, he just somehow runs away from them. He looked like he was playing against 13 year kids yesterday.
I'm going to enjoy seeing how Riley changes his style, minimally as it might be.
Hurts comes at the perfect time, giving Mordecai and Rattler extra time to develop.
I'm thinking that Rattler will redshirt this year, playing in four games and barring any injuries to Hurts or Mordecai. If that's true, I'll be curious to know what 4 games Rattler will be in. So far, he's only appeared in in the South Dakota blowout.

Yeah, I hear all that.

Too bad we didn't pitch a shutout like everyone else in the top 10 did.

We'll see how it goes when they have to make a kick that actually matters.
