neutral observer here: Boozer made the correct decision. holding the ball to draw a foul doesn’t win the game. pass to a wide open teammate to run out the clock wins the game. UConn got the critical turnover.

Hindsight is 20/20.
Huh? You make them foul there or make a turn over . His light pass caused the three.

It was a bad pass, true. But no the tried and true, winning strategy is to play keep-away and run out the clock without taking uncertain FTs. You only hold the ball to get fouled if no one else is wide open to pass to.

Good decision, bad pass.

I honestly just think after what happened last year kinda bit us. Last year we messed up not getting the ball to Kon and instead have it too Proctor. This year the guys were so intent on getting it to Evans and it cost us.

If Jon has any brains at all they will go all out and break the bank on a stud PG. Please get a coach on the court next year....

Today was one of the worst days in Duke athletics history. I will now hope that my Spurs can win a title. Because right now I am gutted. I wish I didn't let sports get to me.
As much sports as I've watched my whole life, I'm 51 now, Duke basketball is the only team I'm totally invested in. I root for teams in all other sports but I absolutely love Duke basketball. I'm so heartbroken as well bleed

Die hard over Duke, Raiders, Spurs, Canes, and my Braves. I felt like Duke had the best chance of winning a championship. Spurs are probably too young. Braves aren't beating the Dodgers. Canes always choke. And the Raiders, well......

But I love sports too much. I really need to step back and reassess things after tonight's loss. I'm disgusted, heartbroken, and gutted. It's not life or death. And I need to be better about this stuff. Love to Duke nation. Jon is taking a ton of heat right now. It's rough, and living in NC makes it even harder to deal with.

Sarr made good pass ahead to Cayden and we didn't have to cross mid court. Cayden just needed to stay away from defense. I'm wondering if he thought he had to get across midcourt

I’m a pretty big panthers fan but Duke is my team I’ve never felt pain or joy from sports like from them. Crazy how being a fan is.

DI, sorry we all had to witness the collapse from tonight.

it sucks. I don’t understand why Duke went away from what they were doing in the 1st half. Duke put on a clinic in the 1st half and then went away from it in the 2nd half. Credit to Danny Hurley and his team staying the course.

I Believe in Scheyer, but he Needs to find a way to keep his Teams Focused for Full Games.

all the losses this season and last season happened the same way.

I’m going to the Final 4 with my family next weekend since it’s in Indianapolis. Was really hoping the Blue Devils would be there. Hoping any team not Uconn Wins the Championship on the 6th.

Cam gone, Dame gone, Maliq gone, Pat gone, Evans gone, Darren transferring.

We have Frosh Cayden coming back, Frosh Nik and Caleb foster coming back with a bunch of freshman coming in.

I am not sure we get over the hump anytime soon if continue to rely on OAD freshman.
our losses the past year have been to teams with upperclassmen who have tons of experience.

Definitely not, you're not getting freshman every year like Flagg and Boozer. Maybe the best thing that could happen would be a 10 to 15 loss season to bring a change in the philosophy. Its astounding the talent that Duke has squandered in the last 10 years......

100% agree and I posted earlier in this thread that Cam Williams at the 4 is going to get beat up against stronger players. Imagine him going up against a Yaxel or Morez Johnson type player who is pure muscle and legit grown men body.

Still shocked we wasted 2 NPOY in back to back seasons by blowing double digit leads in the biggest games.

I said this last year but if we can’t win with best teams and best player’s, when will we ever win. Sure Arizona or Michigan most likely would have beaten us a week from now but to not even sniff the natty with the two teams we just had in back to back years, I start to wonder if Jon is the right man for the job.

Would Dusty May or Tommy Lloyd blow double digits leads with the talent we’ve had?

The Duke philosophy needs to change man. At this point it feels like we are just an NBA farming system. I hate ACC championships because that’s usually when we peak. The freshman celebrate like we won the NCAA tournament but really it’s meaningless.

If you look at the past 10 seasons, we have underachieved with most talent. We might win some big games here and there but we have nothing to show for it besides ACCT chips because there is no continuity carrying over year after year. Just look at UConn for example, Karaban 4 year player multiple NCAAT chips, third most wins in the NCAAT and he might not even get drafted.

Yep sign me up for that SMH
We honestly need it, otherwise we will be let down year after year for believing in a freshman who knows he’s only going to be here for 6-7 months then off to the NBA. Darryn Peterson is a guy who load managed to protect his draft stock SMH. Shout to the Boozer twins and Cooper Flagg, those are the only freshmen who I ca say genuinely wanted to win a title and did everything in their power to do so.

CBS sports on Twitter had simultaneous views of Jon and the play. You see Jon directing Sarr to get it to Cayden and also directing Cayden to pass it ahead.
Yeah Ngongba and Evans were by themselves. If Cayden can get it past the two UConn. players with that pass, it is in all likelihood a game clinching dunk for Duke.

They are much better coached teams.

Unc has been doing the philosophy you’ve proposed. That philosophy has led them to back to back 1st round ncaa tournament losses, failing to qualify for the NCAA Tournament as a Pre Season #1 Team, and being eliminated in the Sweet 16 as a 1 seed, while experiencing multiple double digit loss seasons.

I don’t see how wanting Duke to experience double digit losses in a season is a logical answer?

And why was Pat even in the game at that point in the game? Should've been Nik, Evans, the boozer's and Sarr who was the in bounder. Cam shouldn't even had given the ball back to Sarr either. All the things that could've gone wrong went wrong.
