The morning after.......I had a bad feeling the way we ended the first half. Two missed FT's, an offensive foul and a terrible shot. It just sort of fell apart from there. Let's face it though, Duke was wobbly in all three NCAA games. There were extended stretches of poor play in all three. Obviously the last play last night was the nail in the coffin, but how many live ball turnovers did we have in the second that led to layups? Just like Houston last year, it was like we forgot how to play the game and panicked, playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Lacking upperclassmen with experience is a big issue. We really could have used a healthy Foster out there. I hated that last play last night, I was yelling "just hold the ball", but thinking back, being in the 1 and 1, not being a good FT shooting team, the possession arrow to UConn, still time on the clock, I do feel it was the right play. 9 times out of 10 Cayden makes that pass and we win. Snakebit!
Also, I love my "friends" who don't reach out all year about Duke who felt the need to text me last night and this morning.
I am and always will be a Duke fan. I will say in this new NIL, one and done, super freshman era, I am less invested as ever. The only benefit is it makes tough losses like this easier to get over.
It was fun chatting it up with you fellas this season. Let's see what next year brings. How many days til Countdown?
