And why was Pat even in the game at that point in the game? Should've been Nik, Evans, the boozer's and Sarr who was the in bounder. Cam shouldn't even had given the ball back to Sarr either. All the things that could've gone wrong went wrong.
Good points. Definitely should have been Nik for Pat, I hadn’t thought about that one.

CBS sports on Twitter had simultaneous views of Jon and the play. You see Jon directing Sarr to get it to Cayden and also directing Cayden to pass it ahead.
As i said, it was the right strategy. UC also had the possession arrow if a tie up. UC made the critical steal but it was the right decision to pass to the open player to run out the clock.

You could, but it’s 1 and 1 free throws. So unless Cayden can knock down both, UConn is still getting a chance to shoot a last second 3 to either tie or win. If the Cayden pass gets through, game is over basically, Duke wins.
Correct. And UC also had the possession arrow. It was best strategy to do what he did. Sh*t happens. If he were to miss the first FT and UC hits the game winning three Cayden would be killed for not giving it up to run out the clock.

Still shocked we wasted 2 NPOY in back to back seasons by blowing double digit leads in the biggest games.

I said this last year but if we can’t win with best teams and best player’s, when will we ever win. Sure Arizona or Michigan most likely would have beaten us a week from now but to not even sniff the natty with the two teams we just had in back to back years, I start to wonder if Jon is the right man for the job.

Would Dusty May or Tommy Lloyd blow double digits leads with the talent we’ve had?
How many titles does Dusty May and Tommy Lloyd have

Building around star freshmen with role players isnt working...we've tried it for 5+ years and it eventually catches up in the late stages of the NCAAT....the teams winning titles are built around mature players with star freshman playing their role around them..thats basically UCONN, UA and Michigan...we need a change in philosophy..

Yeah Ngongba and Evans were by themselves. If Cayden can get it past the two UConn. players with that pass, it is in all likelihood a game clinching dunk for Duke.
Hindsight wished Sarr had thrown it down court. Don't like the play with Sarr and Cayden with the ball with 10 seconds to go. Sarr one of worst foul shooters on team and our best shooter down court. Not good

Scheyer is retaining guys. The only season he had guys transfer out was after the 2024 season.

this has resulted in returning the Proctors, Fosters, Browns, Flips, Mitchells, Roachs, Ngongbas, Evans, and Harris for continuity purposes.

How many titles does Jon Scheyer have ? I’d rather be old and experienced with maybe one or two freshmen being a vocal point in our philosophy playing in the final 4/NC games as opposed to depending on 3-4 freshmen in an elite 8 game that we lose.

Yeah I’m good with the idea of getting it in Evans hands no matter what, and then counting on him to hit the high high pressure free throws.

Who was our last 4 yr senior? Roach i think...before that Joey Baker? we need mulitple 4 year impact players

Caleb should be a 4 year guy if he stays but the teams in the final four this year and last year were led by old men. Arizona, UConn and Illinois have one freshman in their starting lineup. Duke had 3.

No idea why Evans was all the way down the other end
If Cayden angles the ball up higher he could've got it to Slim or Pat and we're running out the clock with a clear path to the basket. I'm really hurting for these coaches and kids. This one will hurt for us but those guys are going to carry that **** forever. Cayden saying he let his brother and the team down crushed my soul.

We had 2 freshman handling the ball at the end; one of whom is a bad FT shooter.
Second half was an example of how Scheyer is not a good in game coach...no adjustments and we struggled...no double on Reed, just like other games where one player was killing us ( NC state etc)..their bigs had 3/4 fouls yet we settled for outside shots...its not an isolated example...all the games where we lose large leads are the same, poor decision making...JS has a hard time adjusting to other teams changes after half..Hurley ate his lunch

Zona got two guys on the bench who would be starters on any team in Del Orso and Awaka who are both seniors. Main thing is they have a true PG in Bradley who's a senior and been at Zona for a while. Kharchenkov is 19 but been playing pro ball in Europe since he was 16.

I don't think what happened tonight would've happened if we were healthy. We just got injured at the wrong time in back to back seasons. It'll probably come out soon that Pat had a fracture in his foot.

Didn’t Duke have a time-out left? Maybe use it to set up the press brake. How much time was on the clock when Duke inbounded the ball, if it was :10 or less, just hold the ball.

Yep sign me up for that SMH

Duke is has literally turned into Dean Smith or Calipari coached program these days. Some
Unc has been doing the philosophy you’ve proposed. That philosophy has led them to back to back 1st round ncaa tournament losses, failing to qualify for the NCAA Tournament as a Pre Season #1 Team, and being eliminated in the Sweet 16 as a 1 seed, while experiencing multiple double digit loss seasons.

I don’t see how wanting Duke to experience double digit losses in a season is a logical answer?

They dont get studs......

Stay away from here then. The boo-birds who never show up except to complain are gonna be hyperbolizing for the rest of the season.
Living in NC intensifies the pain of the loss. I work with all cheater fans. Most of my family is a fan of the cheaters. I never talk junk to anyone. And yet, I get it all the time. These last few years have pushed me to rethink how invested I am in my sports teams.

I’m reading all these posts about the makeup of our teams. I don’t know the answer. I loved this team. Did our injuries come back to bite us? Caleb didn’t look near as good as the game before. Was his foot still sore, or did they guard him better? He took one shot, and had a costly turnover on a fast break he normally would have scored on.

What was up with Evans? He only took 6 shots in 29 minutes, and committed a costly turnover late in the game. Other than Khamenia hitting a 3 fairly late, who else scored for us other than Cam?

Our late game struggles on the big stage seem to have one thing in common, and that’s butt holes puckering. It looks like everyone prays our freshman star will lead us to victory, teammates included. And sadly, we’ve seen how that has worked out

Been there. Had to go through some personal crises to break myself of it. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and there are definitely other ways to achieve it, but that's how it happened for me.

The morning after.......I had a bad feeling the way we ended the first half. Two missed FT's, an offensive foul and a terrible shot. It just sort of fell apart from there. Let's face it though, Duke was wobbly in all three NCAA games. There were extended stretches of poor play in all three. Obviously the last play last night was the nail in the coffin, but how many live ball turnovers did we have in the second that led to layups? Just like Houston last year, it was like we forgot how to play the game and panicked, playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Lacking upperclassmen with experience is a big issue. We really could have used a healthy Foster out there. I hated that last play last night, I was yelling "just hold the ball", but thinking back, being in the 1 and 1, not being a good FT shooting team, the possession arrow to UConn, still time on the clock, I do feel it was the right play. 9 times out of 10 Cayden makes that pass and we win. Snakebit!

Also, I love my "friends" who don't reach out all year about Duke who felt the need to text me last night and this morning.

I am and always will be a Duke fan. I will say in this new NIL, one and done, super freshman era, I am less invested as ever. The only benefit is it makes tough losses like this easier to get over.

It was fun chatting it up with you fellas this season. Let's see what next year brings. How many days til Countdown?

Like many of you said, I think the National Championship drought is what gets under our skin even though Duke remains Elite when it comes to collecting Wins, Earning Conference Championships, Earning #1 Seeds on a consistent basis. We’ve had some real heartbreaks

2018 - Grayson’s shot not falling against KU
2019 - Zion & RJ and company not making it to Minneapolis
2022 - Losing to the cheats
2024 - Losing to Burns and NC State
2025 - Falling apart against Houston
2026 - Falling apart against Uconn

Cameron and Khamenia tried their damnest in the 2nd half yesterday to Will the Blue Devils. The rest of the guys didn’t help them out unfortunately.

Cameron and Brown are gone.

imo Ngongba, Evans, and Sarr all Need 2 return to Duke because none of them are ready for the NBA.

Foster, Cayden, and Khamenia will all be back. Wilkins will be a redshirt freshman for 2026-2027.

I won’t be surprised if Harris transfers out to somewhere he can be more of a contributor.
