How does that compare to Clemson not playing list?
From what I read, Clemson has 28 players not playing due to injury or opting out with two more who may or may not play based on a game time decision (including Cade Klubnik).

Simple answer to your last query is that the players are getting paid. Yes, it’s not pay for play but it’s a lot of money they’re making. Before NIL only the most hardline of fans had a problem with players opting out of meaningless bowl games. Now, it’s a different story with NIL. I personally have no problem with players opting out but I easily understand the contrary view.

And someone asked this question, why not opt out against Rutgers? How was this year’s Rutgers game any more important than today’s bowl game? I don’t have an answer to that.
Because it's part of the season and still within the semester they're enrolled. The fall semester is over--many of these guys are no longer students at Penn State.

To avoid this situation in the future one of two things must occur:
1. All those receiving NIL monies must play the full schedule, including bowl games, or return the NIL money.
2. Since bowl games are totally meaningless, ALL are canceled beginning next year except for those associated with the playoffs.

All teams are free to schedule the allotted number of "bowl game practices" including scrimmages with other teams.
1--then players will go to schools that don't require that in their NIL deal as most accept these games don't mean anything
2--much better option

With that many of PSU players opting out, the network should change our name back to

The Pinstripe Bowl - The Farmer's High School versus Clemson Agricultural College.....

To add some context to that list, some of those names are guys who have been out most of, or all of, the season with injury. Many on that list are not new names.

At some point contracts will change to be more like NFL contracts (and standardized across the P4) and players will play if games are being played.
It will be interesting to see if they write "bowl games" into those contracts--somehow I don't believe they will. If they do, we'll just have guys not playing due to "coach's decision" like the NBA does all the time.

The betting line favors Clemson by something akin to a field goal and ESPN’s FPI system believes PSU has a 65% chance to win. Goes to show just how unpredictable these opt-out bowls are for the bigger programs. I don’t know what to expect but it can be fun in that way as well.

Difference will be the portal which I believe will be restricted in the future as kids sign multi year contracts. Agree coaches will keep stars out if not meaningful.

See that's where we differ. I want the best for our guys...not just while they're in our uniform.
Allen was arguably our best player this season. He gave us his all. Now it's time for him to do what's best for him. This isn't a playoff game. I'm still trying to understand why people care about bowl games. No one has yet to be able to explain that.

But Rutgers wasn't a playoff game. MSU and Indiana were not playoff games.

Bowl game were once fun to watch - school pride and all of that.

what's the point of bowl game practices and scrimmages with other teams?

It was a regular season game. Not a scrimmage. The regular season and the playoff matter. Today's game is simply a reward for those that want go participate.

We went 6-6 (3-6) and many want to believe today's game should be something people care about. I mean, we have to accept it for what if is. We got some great extra practice time and the younger guys that practiced hard all year get an opportunity.

Win or lose...it doesn't matter.

Let’s see, our first play will be a jet sweep to Peña or my favorite double flea flicker sack combo…..

Aside from a win and no injuries, I’m curious to see how the young backs and OL perform today.
