Once again there was only 1 defender in the middle of the field. Opposing QBs keep taking off up the middle for big yds on 3rd down.

No adjustments since UCLA.

I can't remember anything like this in all my years watching PSU football. Where's G. Capone when you need him?

It's points to the larger problem that has plagued this team all year. Instead of coming out with a legit game plan we spend too much time on gimmicky stuff--like the last pass they tried to get to Pena. We need to focus on the basics especially with a young QB. And Allen isn't the guy that should be running that play which is yet another problem--not using your players to their strengths.

You have to be kidding.

It points to coming out and having a legitimate game plan, with surprise being a key element.

They picked up the initial 1st down, then ran on 1st down in a traditional set, with Kaytron trying to go between the tackles, and they lost 2 yards on that play. So by implication, you would have preferred that play, which would have been pretty predictable off of their trends, on the 1st play of the game?

On the pass to Pena, it was 3rd & 12. An obvious passing play, with a freshman starting the 3rd game of his college career. The DBs were loaded up. A crossing pattern, which they ran on that play, made a lot of sense, in that it's unlikely to get picked off, and could also settle the QB. Unfortunately, Grunk threw it behind Ross (not the end of the world). If they had tried to hit a WR/TE down a seam, with the DBs expecting a pass, and Grunk had been that off that much on his throw in that situation, it would have very likely been picked off.

I'm done explaining individual plays, and philosophy, in this thread.

Offensive play calling is so Bad, Why is a wide out run back toward the line of scrimmage. Do these guys even practice ?

De Luca is so weak. Could not get off his block.

I grouse about this every f'ing Saturday. A lot of players don't get off their blocks. All I remember from HS football is if the guy is trying to block you one way, push him back in the opposite direction. These guys seem to stand up and look for the play... Pisses me off. Pissed me off when I played in HS. Getting blocked and watching the play.

And this drive--run, run to start
They're doing a horrible job trying to get Grunk comfortable--per usual

1st down: Kaytron for 4 on a sweep
2nd down: Kaytron for 1 between the tackles
3rd down: IU blitzes, and Grunk is sacked

PSU has to punt, and Gabe kicks a 43-yard punt, which IU fair catches, at the IU 32

Another great series. Spectacular play-calling from out $1.6 million OC.
How about the pathetic block attempt by Dawkins who's in his sixth year. He may be a good kid but he is a terrible football player. If he stayed here 20 years he would still suck. Our linemen can't even get out of their stance.
