what does everyone think of the recent "officiating" becoming the marquee argument for a playoff system? it seems as though this is a major incentive for the league to effectively "rig" games.

then there would be no point in it. I figure the best system is an 8-team playoff with 7 autboids (including one for the Mtn West if they pull in Boise) and one at-large team. If each conference always knew that its champion would have a chance for the title, they could just let the teams play and what happens would happen. No need to rig it for Iowa when the teams could determine the best team on their own and that best team was gauranteed to have a shot.

in a league with over 100 teams....

if there is a #2 team from a major conference more deserving than another from a sisters of the blind conference then so be it...

just take the best 8 and be done with it... no team that is weaker should get the nod over one that is obviously stronger because they played a weaker schedule...

let 1 thru 4 host 5 thru 8 after the regular season then have 4 square off in the bowl games then have a true national championship..

case close.. .. the only other option would be to just let the best 4 square off in 2 bowl games then have a nat champ game...

by the end of the season....generally there should be no more than 4...

the 16 team choice is for idiots who don't understand the beauty of the best regular season in all of sports

from the regular season and also argue that there shouldn't be a conference championship requirement for an 8-team playoff. I favor an 8-team playoff with automatic spots for the 6 BCS league champions and the highest ranked non-BCS league champion, with one at-large bid.

but does anyone think that come the end of the season, if an sec school does play into the championship game, will their placement there, and the championship if they win be placed with the great * asterisks" of baseball's steroid era?

but allowing each conference an autobid is the only way to get every conference to do it. Plus, allowing LSU, Florida, AND Alabama all into the playoff takes away from the regular season because they all get a shot regardless. Just allowing the 7 champs in and 1 at large doesn't, because probably one, MAYBE two of them get in. This season, we'd probably have: Florida/Alabama winner Iowa/Ohio State winner Texas Oregon/Arizona winner Pittsburgh/Cincinnati winner TCU/Boise State winner (since the MWC would have to add Boise to get a bid in this plan) Georgia Tech one at large team...probably Alabama/Florida loser, but it should be entirely done by computer rankings; no biased pollsters. So we'd get a bracket like this: 8 Ohio State at 1 Florida 5 Alabama at 4 Cincinnati 6 Georgia Tech at 3 TCU 7 Oregon at 2 Texas or something like that. This would easily be the most exciting thing on TV each year. And there would be no reason for refs to cheat for certain teams, since every conference gets a team in. edited because somehow the formatting was awful
