If MSU was involved in a large negatively controversial news story you bet your *** Ole Miss message boards would be all over it.
The typical Ole Miss response about MSU fans being obsessed with them is weak, tired, and embarrassing.

Negative attention like this has an affect on the entire state. Only people in the immediate area will even realize that this is ONLY an Ole Miss problem.

mabye even the dubmass idiot students who want to yell it at the ball games realize now that perhaps they don't want to yell something that the damn Klan is supportive of. Groups like that make political ideology easy. You look at what they think, and you think the opposite direction and you get it right every time.

It makes me very, very sad that my university continually puts itself in a position to have to deal with ******** like this.

have you ever lived out of the south for over a couple of months? try it sometime. there could be a klan rally once a week and it wouldn't further tarnish the image that the south is a bunch of ignorant racists. the people who see this in the national media if it happens will just say "that figures" and continue thinking we are backwards.
i am not saying that i am all for it happening but at the same time i don't believe it would have much of "an effect on the entire state." it's like adding just a little extra stink to a turd at this point.
/another example: i studied abroad in grad school and was in a very small town in scotland and big ol girl at a bar found out i was from Mississippi and she asked "isn't that the place in america that hates all of the black people?"

maybe it is time to be considering a name change. If you are going to have a huge backlash for dropping songs, changing names, and getting a huge black mark on the university... why not do it all at once instead of doing it a little at a time and rehanging the dirty laundry every few years or so?
But the problem is, we're never going to overcome that stereotype as long as **** like this is happening. So, while it might not make the rest of the country think less of us, it does reinforce the stereotype and help it survive.
