Ohio State football | QB prospect Danny Clark changes mind, decommits

"The left-hander, a native of the Columbus area, had become the first commitment to Urban Meyer’s 2017 class after his freshman season, when he was at Massillon before transferring to Hoban two years ago. But several recruiting analysts had said Clark was not showing the skills thought to be sought by the Buckeyes at quarterback, though he did lead his team to a state championship last season...."

“In the past few months I have been forced to accept the fact that as pro-style QB maybe my style of play would be a good fit elsewhere,” Clark wrote. “At first I couldn’t accept it. I spent a lot of nights crying and praying for an answer that I thought I already knew."

From our past Pro QB's like Towels and Barker haven't done well in the Stoops era. I'm liking the mobility of Stephen Johnson and the dual threat option.

Anymore, if a guy is a 6 star QB that is only an average runner, not going to make it in the SEC unless he has a great OL and great receivers. Also, what would he do with his tatoo?

With our O-Line play and recruiting getting better, hopefully a pro style can do well enough if he has time to throw the ball. Towles & Barker both haven't had enough time to throw the ball with our poor OLine play. I understand that right now a dual threat is better, but I feel like our OLine is getting better.

There is little doubt in my mind the college game is trending toward the dual threat QB. Defenses have traditionally struggled when forced to contend with the QB as a runner and the zone read game is presenting even more problems in defending a run/pass QB.

5* Jacob Eason was absolutely the best QB recruit last season and is not exactly setting the world on fire as a t-FR at a GA program that returned a number of starters from last season. He is (IMO) a top drawer drop back talent who is not in the Top 100 nationally in QBR and ranks #11 in the SEC in that metric.

I've heard UGA fans complain about OL recruiting.

Hard to be a true Fr QB in the SEC no matter how talented. Some on here just can't figure that out.

UGA has a transfer from Rhode Island starting on their OL. Their cupboard isn't all that well stocked.
I have no clue what their rankings are for their OL commits but I would almost guarantee that they are in the top half of the league.

I'm starting to agree with that. Nothing is better than a really strong pocket passer but we haven't shown the ability to put a decent line in front of one. I believe we need to start going the mobile route until our line improves.

We all know that when a young man decommits from OSU that his offer wasn't "commitable" in the first place.[eyeroll]

OK....I'm gonna go all jauk on you guys! [laughing]

Per Rivals the last 5 recruiting classes have include (1) 5.5 OL, (1) 5.6 OL, (9) 5.7 OLs and (6) 5.8+ OLs. That ain't AL but I think you should be able to piece together a serviceable OL with that talent. [winking]

I agree 100% with those that feel a pro-style quarterback is not the best choice for Kentucky. We need a player that can keep a defense honest, guessing and can help win a game with his feet. A good, recent example would be the two (2) runs Johnson had inside the 20 to help us score the final touchdown against South Carolina.

I'm sure that Grumpy would be able to offer some insight, but I believe that fans complained about Richt's OL recruiting. Kirby has done a great job with the OL so far in the 2017 class.

I've always thought that UK needs a dual threat QB. We cannot go toe to toe with most SEC programs and play them straight up. We need a wrinkle in the offense like a running QB.

Yes I have read that in numerous places on how Richt didn't really concentrate on OL. In retrospect though I'm sure that they have recruited better than Vandy but nowhere near as well as you guys.

Looks like UGA has 4 OL commits to date, 3 of which are 4*.

If a kid can spin it bring him aboard. Look around the country there is plenty of top shelf pocket qbs. We do not have to have either or we need qbs that can make quick decisions and be accurate. Fivw me andy dalton all day

Just curious, what is his ranking and what was his offer sheet (obviously I know OSU offered since he was committed there)but who else offered? Thanks.

Yeah, few teams would want a bum like Eason. It's going to be strange how (assuming good college stats) he'll probably be the first pick in a future draft.

I agree people get wayyyyy to hung up on dual threat vs pro style. Not to many frosh qbs set the world on fire. As good as louisville qb Jackson is he struggled at times last year and hes dual threat. I guess Tom Brady sucks running a 5.17 40 lol. With the qb position its about getting your team in the correct protections and accuracy.

OSU just didn't have room for him and told him so. They decided on focusing on someone else.

stock up with both dual threat and pro style, and may the best man get the start. Petrino at Louisville will have both types of QBs on the roster, and cater the offense to the best QB.
