Was listening to Jim talk to Cohen last night about our returning team, new players, and the pitching staff. Cohen spoke highly of all the guys that pitched in the fall, then brought up a player who did not pitch during the fall that he expects big things from. Paul Young. Paul Young? Did not know we had a Paul Young on the team. Where is Cohen all of a sudden finding these diamonds in the rough? He also indicated that Garner could be a middle of order hitter at catcher, but may have trouble beating out the 2 newcomers at catcher. Again, This Cohen guy seems to be getting his pick of the litter these days.

The Wool is growing heavy as we get closer to February 14. And it has nothing to do with Valentines Day.**

He found Paul Young throwing a complete game to win the JUCO national championship. Actually, we had been on him a bit before then -- but that's when he blew up. He went JUCO as an outfielder and got the opportunity to pitch in passing sometime part of the way through his freshman year -- and literally set the world on fire when he did. He went 5-0 with 2 saves and 5 complete games.

Throws mid/upper 90s -- and could have easily ended up as a 2nd-4th round pick by MLB if not for signability concerns. Still went in the 21st. Has 4 to play 3 at MSU I'm pretty sure -- but he'll likely only be here 2 years. Had arm soreness in the fall that I was worried would culminate in surgery -- but he is apparently fine now. He'll have a great chance to earn a spot as a weekend starter for us...
