ESPN seems to intentionally put someone on their shows that make stupid comments to make some sports fans that have lesser knowledge feel smarter.
In other words, if you are a sports fan that doesn't have a whole lot of sports knowledge per say, and you put some oaf on the show that makes some outlandish comment, well, the ignorant sports fan will say something that is correct to make them feel better about themselves, feel included and keep on watching the show. This = better ratings.
They do this with other commentators/personalities like Lou Holtz, Joe Morgan, and Skip Bayless.
In other words, they have to appeal to women somehow.
