...but there is no excuse for him being THAT wide open so many times. It's been happening the entire game and I expected an adjustment in our defense to come at some point. But no. Time and time again he catches the ball with no maroon jersey in sight. I just don't understand it. Put somebody on that dude, and don't let him get a moment's peace for the rest of the night!!!

its our **** zone....ive been doing my damndest to bring awareness to it, but everybody thinks collins is some savior that runs some type of amazing zone that somehow covers our inexperience in the secondary. well, thats just not the reality....its the same defense as his predecessor with similar results. sorry guys, that the reality. and before people say...the defense it just tired, this same defense just gave up 342 yards and 28 points BY HALFTIME in tonights game....not surprisingly, they gave up 5 of 7 3rd down conversions in that timespan as well. **** people...end the denial. ugly numbers against teams that are from major conferences. thats been fairly consistent. the holes in our zone make it totally useless.

why am i the only one that has a problem with the defensive philosophy? its not working.

Trust me, you're not the only one. I hate to go back so far in history, but look at Joe Lee Dunn's defense... It completely revolved around the ability to cover on the corners. We need to play man-coverage on the outside, freeing up our LB's to play a decent zone.

I think LSU is the best O we're going to see. Better than Bama. Beckham chewed up man coverage in the 1 half.

That he did, but any OC is going to see that if we are covering him close then he should send the ball somewhere else. He should've been taken out of the game (figuratively) in the first half, but he was a sure thing. We just couldn't cover him early, then he wore us down. We need guys of the Banks/Smoot caliber....

Eh, there's an offense in Texas that's going to be a little better.

But you're kinda right. "We" probably won't see them because I'm not sure I'll waste my time watching that one.

What you (and obviously Shamoan) may not have been able to see on TV was that we DID run a LOT of man coverage. That coverage was so ******, though, that it probably looked like a zone on Tv bc when the ball got to the receiver, he was by himself.

Why don't we jam these good wr's at the line? Beckham might as well be an nfl wr when it comes to running routes. To have a chance I think you jam then

we ran a ****-tone of zone vs lsu and have all year. we were not even attempting to run with their wr's late. the team is using zone as a crutch and they are getting eaten alive. i wouldnt say we ran a LOT of man....we did at the beginning and i thought we did fairly well in coverage and more often than not, on first down, we will be in man, but first or second down havent been the problem. their wrs climbed the ladder and made some outstanding catches early on against our man.....as the game wore on, we reverted into more zone. im tempted to give a breakdown for pass plays, but its almost 4 am.

at this point, i have more confidence in our man with safety support than i do in our shittastic zone. if we cant cover one great healthy receiver, one great gimpy receiver, and an average sec receiver with 8, we are in trouble. most teams we play have a great, good, and average receiver with a qb that can get it to them. i simply dont understand supporting a defense that gave 340 yards passing on 24-29. thats insanity. regardless of whether or not you think its zone vs man....or whatever, its obviously not good enough. who is to blame? im blaming our d coordinator for allowing those kinds of numbers. is that supposed to be acceptable? pretty sure chirs wilsons dumb *** got fired for better numbers than this ****. if you dont agree with my assessment in the "whys" surely you agree in the fact that it WAS ****** and that type of performance is NOT ACCEPTABLE under any circumstance. if not, at what point, if ever, do we hold someone responsible for a 59 point murderfest? is this our new norm and has it become acceptable? it kinda sounds like it is.

im, everyone should be equally outraged at the outcome. ultimately, it boils down to the responsibility of one man. we have given up points than UAB and KENT STATE. did they have better talent than we do? is that our new excuse? we should all be pissed and should be talking about how to fix the problem. 59 points at home on national prime-time television.....shhhiiit....thats a damn joke.

He's right.. LSU is the best offense we'll face this year. aTm has a more dynamic player but player for player, LSU has the best offensive unit in the SEC

You guys are a little delusional. We don't have corners that can cover that type of talent man-to-man for more than two seconds/

On top of the soft zone and guys being out of position, the times when they were physically in position, they would have to look at the video board to know that their guy was the one who was thrown to. Mett knew that when he threw the ball, that the worst case scenario was that it hit our DB in the back of the helmet. I think that was one of the more frustrating things to me ... I know that we are weak back there, but to not even be looking for the ball ...

nobody is saying we should put them in man and leave them on islands. **** people, why does everyone assume it has to be one or the other? ever heard of a free or strong safety? i have yet to see a single post here or anywhere else advocating man-on-man coverage with no help. nobody is asking our 2* corners to shut-down their 5* wr's. seriously, does that even need to be said?

one thing we know from here on out (because we have seen it in every single loss) is that our zone is totally ineffective.....like, as in TOTALLY. we know, without a doubt, that it is an utter failure at providing acceptable levels of coverage....and im not a zone hater....zone can be very effective if you have the personnel to run it and the coaching to make sure the gaps are minimized. we have neither...its beyond time for plan b. again, whats the worst thing that could happen? we give up 59 points and over 540 yards in total offense. we allowed a team that routinely destroys us nearly every time we play to totally redefine how they quantify the term "destroy" when playing us. exactly how can it possibly get any worse?

NFL technique vs college. And yes there is a difference. Notice there was no pass interference, but no balls knocked down (pass break-ups)? Mett and the WRs are clicking. But we put up the worst pass defense numbers of any team against LSU. This includes UAB, & Kent St. Auburn raggedy OL' DB Coach did a hellava lot better than our NFL Coach. Don't tell me about being young. Hell Auburn had the worst secondary in the league last year.

I agree. They're strong at every position and very balanced. So far, LSU looks like the best team in the SEC to me.

Did LSU not just get through losing to UGA? Now I know that UGA had some injuries occur this past weekend, but I don’t see how anyone can hand LSU the "best in the SEC” label at this point. (You’re not the only person I’ve seen say this.)

They may have the best offense in the SEC right now, although aTm may have something to say about that. But their defense seems to be a pretty big problem. I definitely do not expect them to beat Alabama.

LSU lost a very close game that could have easily gone either way at Georgia. That doesn't necessarily mean Georgia had the better team. And I do expect LSU to beat Alabama.

They chewed up every coverage we threw at them. We ran man, they out-jumped us. We ran zone, Mettenberger put it between people. We ran combo coverages, they found the weak link underneath. Sometimes they were wide open, yes, but at least half of their throws over 10 yards we had someone in position, and they simply made a play; often an NFL-caliber one. Beckham and Landry are the best WR combo in the conference by far, and possibly in the nation. They should both go pro after this season. Throw in a quality SEC running game, and the only team with a prayer of slowing LSU down is Bama.

I don't. I don't think LSU's defense can stop Alabama, and Alabama's DB's will cover their great receivers much better than we did.
