Ok, let's start talking about Rice. How do we match up?

Rice is a solid team that was giving a&m all they wanted until the 2nd half when JFF started playing.

I think it's a good match up for our defense.

Rice's only win over a BCS conference team was a 23-14 win over Kansas (3-9 record). The Owls lost to Texas A&M 52-31, Houston 31-26 and North Texas 28-16 (only conference loss). However the Owls won several close games. Beat Florida Atlantic 18-14, Tulsa 30-27 in OT, Texas San Antonio 27-21, UAB 37-34 in OT, and Tulane 17-13. They like to run the ball, but their QB can also throw it pretty well. However, our D-line should be able to control the run game. If our guys come out ready to play and don't overlook them, I think we win this game comfortably.

They actually seem to run a similar offensive scheme to what we run. It's a more physical variation of the spread.

They have a fairly mobile QB with very average passing stats. Their RB is a big, physical guy with pretty impressive numbers. Their leading receiver looked huge in the couple of times I've caught glimpses of their games.

Defense is ok, but nothing special.

As long as we don't have a sloppy game on offense, we should be fine. I really like this matchup for our defense, especially if Collins has them playing like they did in our last three games.

Conference USA is down, down, down right now. Not an insult directed at Rice, just an obvious fact. Every year the Big East (American Athletic Conference) raids more and more of their recognizable schools and CUSA has to pick up some bottom dweller like Texas State, FAU, or Texas San Antonio to maintain their numbers. Not saying Rice can't play ball, or that they have no chance to win...but we are gonna have to royally crap the sheets in order for them to get the win. If we play a solid defensive game, and don't turn the ball over, then we should win decisively.

No excuse for not beating them by more than 14
