ShareDear Rev. Newton:
I can only imagine how difficult these times must be for you and your family. You are being widely assumed to be guilty of offering your son and his football ability for sale.
Lots of people, Rev. Newton, want to believe you are innocent. But when you refuse to talk, refuse to defend yourself or, more importantly, your son, you don’t give them much ammunition. You and only you can end this unprecedented feeding frenzy.
How can you do that? You do it by telling the whole story, whatever it is, from start to finish.
Did you ask for money from Mississippi State? If you did, don’t you have to do what you can to make it right? If you didn’t, shouldn’t you be telling everyone who will listen that you and especially your son are innocent? Rightly or wrongly, sir, you stand accused. And those accusations have put a dark cloud over your son as well. If my son were under attack like your son is, sir, there would be no keeping me quiet.
Tell us the whole story, Rev. Newton, from start to finish. Tell us what happened at Mississippi State. If people are lying, tell us they are lying. If anything improper happened at Auburn or anywhere else, tell us that, too. Tell us what happened and how and why.
Your reputation and your son’s reputation are being destroyed. Only you can put a stop to it. The truth is going to come out, whatever that is. And you the only one who knows the whole story.
This has gone beyond legalities and gag orders from lawyers. This is about the doing the right thing. Most of all, it’s about doing the right thing for your son.
Tell us, Rev. Newton. Tell us what happened.
Please.
Sincerely,
Phillip Marshall
