OK so why is the 1 seed Brandon playing on the road vs a Lowe seeded team?

The team with the lower number of home playoff games hosts the round. If both teams have the same # of games the higher seed hosts.

Brandon hosted last week and Meridian won at Gulfport. If Gulfport had won Brandon would have hosted.

Bro Montana is correct. This ends up happening almost every year in that district because that district (used to be 3-5A, not sure what they are calling it in 6A) is typically MUCH stronger than the coast district (formerly 4-5A) and so the lower seed gets to host round 2.

This is a terrible rule. It encourages teams in that division to finish in 2nd place. Seems kind of socialistic as well.

I don't have a dog in this fight and live in a completely different state, but this rule seems garbage. You diminish regular season accomplishments when you do this.

MHSAA should be under fire to change this rule

Stupid, stupid rule.

Next week, South Panola travels to Tupelo even though they finished higher than Tupelo in the region this year.

Because MHSAA playoff rules are 17ed up. Too many teams in the playoffs, too many in-division rematches in the playoffs, and a spread the wealth and let everyone host instead of letting teams earn the right to host.

Happens every year with an undefeated 1 seed having to travel to an in-division 2 seed they beat in the regular season, and the 2 seed almost always wins due to home field advantage. It's completely unfair, but the mshaa has had it this way since the beginning of time and refuses to change it. A division winner should not have to go on the road unless they are playing another undefeated team from a different division who scored more points during the regular season or something. I agree it's socialist, but every year it gets complained about, and every year they keep the system the same. That's the the Obama spread the wealth mentality for you.

Ennis Proctor made this point. Many of the High Schools can't afford to go on the road every week during the playoffs. They let the lower seeds host the quarterfinal and semi-final rounds so they could get more money for their budget.

Not that I agree with it, but that was his logic.

Personally, I preferred playing on the road. When you play at home, you have a bunch of your buddies bugging you and total strangers and front-running fans annoying you. When you're on the road, it's just you, your teammates, and the coaches. Any fans that came were die-hard fans who would stick with you through thick and thin. Nothing better than being able to wave to your parents and chat with them after winning a road game.

One of my most embarrassing moments came just before the Moss Point game: I was looking at the stands, waving at mom and dad, when the coaches started screaming my name- I had forgotten that I was on the kickoff return team and had to get on the field.
