As far as what you need for your yard first call your county extension office and do a soil test. That should be your first step to healthy lawn for the long term. You will get back some general recommendations that will be easy to follow for the upcoming season.

Actually, I'm no expert, but that's what I used. I've had better luck with the Scott's than with the generic.

2-4-D. Fertilize just before or when grass begins growing....and I don't care what anyone else says. Soil test would be recommended.....otherwise 13-13-13.
