I was wondering about this. You think he is bitter about not getting the job in the first place? He's résumé is way more impressive than Rays and he spent a great part of his life in Starkville. From Georgetown to Memphis, coming back to Starkville for an assistant gig would be a slap in the face IMO.

Probably the same reason he wasn't hired at Grambling, Miss Valley State and whatever other schools he tried to get a head coaching gig at while under Stansbury.

This is what always baffled me. How in the world did he not land one of those jobs? Does he not interview well or something?
