their notices to the Big 12. I'm shocked. I hope it's to the PAC or the Big, but it looks like it will be us, sigh. Texas is trouble. It also appears that OU and OSU are NOT bound by Oklahoma law to be in the same conference.

Long 4 years. Hope this coincides with the 12-team playoff. And to a couple of your points:

1) Texas won't run anything in the SEC. Your point is dead. It's a great move for all involved.
2) Any reasonable person who knows about government knows that all it takes is one election to sway what happens in a state legislature. Things can change overnight.

Before 1986 Alabama had played in Starkville exactly 4 times.

The series was once played 11 straight times in Tuscaloosa.

Then it went to a supposed home and home series where the games alternated between Tuscaloosa and an off campus site for State's version of home games. Bama had more fans at those games than State. They still bring a ton of people to Starkville but at least they have to buy out a season ticket holder at some point and our players get to be in a familiar environment.

Make no mistake, Texas is not the only "HAVE" team that uses it's money and influence to gain an advantage. I know State was maximizing those off campus games for $$ and Bama is not to blame completely but 11 straight, in the same conference? State actually had some success during some of those years and could have built a better fan following if half of those games had been in Starkville.

Just be glad it's them coming to the SEC and not the so-called Big Six of the SEC going somewhere else. State is still a charter member of this conference.

I suspect it's been made very clear to Texas up front that their ******** won't be tolerated in the SEC. Texas and Oklahoma need the SEC a lot more than the SEC needs them and they know it.

I'm sure it has. Do you think that will stop them from trying once they are in? I don't. It's in their DNA. They are the worst of Alabama and Ole Miss combined.

If anything, they are probably going to get beaten more into submission. I can't wait until they experience the grind of an SEC schedule. It's taken Texas A&M nearly a decade to learn about it and adapt.

I have plainly stated that they will try. I don't think they will be able to, but that doesn't mean it won't be a lot of trouble. Y'all act like they are going to all of a sudden become something different once they join, kind a like the girl who is marrying the bad boy and is sure she can changes his ways once they are married. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't.

All it takes is votes. The SEC bylaw on this was posted the other day. It actually takes one fewer vote to be kicked out than it does to be admitted.
People always took way too much comfort from that anyway. The risk was not really that MSU or Ole Miss would get kicked out of the SEC. The risk was that the blue bloods would form a super conference and we'd be left out. The only reason that won't happen is the blue bloods don't want NFL style parity. Their fan bases are used to 9 or 10 games that range from gimmes to should win, and then two or three toss ups that make or break their season.

Stop being so scared of everything. You’re terrified of what NIL will do to state, terrified of Texas. Just let it play out. My guess (on additions of Texas and OU) is this gets state more money but from a performance standpoint on the field it’ll be neutral. We already had a very low chance of winning the SEC and that does not really change. We will compete with Texas and Oklahoma, I’d rather play either of them rather than Bama.

I will say that if I was Sankey, I think Clemson and Florida State would have been the direction I'd have gone, but it probably wasn't his choice. If Texas and Oklahoma come knocking on your door, you have to let them in.

But you are way too fearful, just like you were with COVID. You're also hot on the downvote button today, I see.

Agree on the blue bloods possibly starting their own deal. But that's a long way in the future, and involves a new conference, not kicking folks out of the SEC.

Do you really think Texas is going to come into the SEC and cause trouble? The SEC isn’t the Big12. Bama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU are all powerful institutions. Texas knows they can’t create problems in the SEC, they need us. The freak out over Texas joining is bizarre, it’s going to be ok.

That "charter member" stuff is myth.

Actually, Mississippi State University is a charter member of the SEC. This is not a myth-it’s a fact. The SEC isn’t going to remove a charter member unless said member behaved very badly. They certainly won’t remove a charter member because of W/L record or something of that nature. Look, I lived in central Texas for 12 years back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s and I know how UT operates. I know how terrible those teasippers are-I hate them worse than I do Alabama and Auburn (yes, that Auburn cult is pretty bad) fans. I’ve always felt that UT is what Old Miss would be if they were a big school with money. A bunch of arrogant, entitled pricks. They (UT) are coming to our house. They asked to come. They are going to be another big fish in another big pond in the SEC-and the pond is much, much bigger than any pond they’ve ever been in. UT can try to throw their weight around but they will quickly find out that there are many other heavyweights to contend with over here. I believe that UT’s teams are about to find out what it feels like to get hit in the mouth on a regular basis as an SEC member. In the Big 12 they have had really one big, physical opponent on their schedule (OU) every year-in the SEC they are going to have a bunch of games each year against multiple physical opponents who are capable of beating them. I realize that their mindset of being the “baddest dog on the block” will still be there, but I can see that facade deteriorating as the realities set in. Texas is about to receive an attitude adjustment to go along with that big payday they will be receiving. In the meantime, Mississippi State will continue to be a member in good standing in the SEC regardless of the “Johnny Come Lately” schools like UT or OU. The SEC needs schools like ours to keep a balance to the league. You really should stop talking about the SEC kicking us to the curb. It’s not going to happen.

They finished their 1st season in the SEC ranked 5th in the country. Their 2nd season had them at 18th in the country.
They have finished ranked in 4 of 9 seasons.
They have made it to a bowl game every season with a 6-3 bowl record.
They have no had a losing season and only have 1 year where they finished under .500 in conference.
Their conference record is 42-31
Their overall record is 77-37

If all that was while A&M was struggling to learn and adapt to the SEC, then this coming decade is gonna be rough for the rest of us.

So how is that going to impact our recruiting? If we go head to head with Texas or OU now, we probably lose out on a recruit. And when they are in the SEC it’ll be the same. We are very rarely going to win head to head recruiting battles with Texas, OU, LSU, Bama, Georgia, Florida… just not going to. I don’t see how them coming in the sec is going to change anything for us on that front.

It might could have a trickle down effect. I could see Texas and OU previously losing recruits to Bama or LSU just because a kid wanted to play in the SEC. So now they stay home, and Bama or LSU comes and cherry picks one of our 4 star recruits to replace that guy.

And we have to wait 2-3 years for him to transfer to us after never seeing the field.

This is a point that needs to be made over and over, because locking OU, TX, Bama, UF, UGA, LSU and the rest of the conference into these contracts for the next 20-30 years will ensure we are part the top conference/league/association whatever you want to call it.

That's the point. During a run when they've been recruiting lights out and been 'up', they still have not won anything. They had the Heisman trophy winner and beat the eventual national champion, but lost 2 games. That is the grind of the SEC. Their only true national championship caliber year was last year.

I'm sure you also think "mIzZoU hAs DoNe WeLl!!11" since they went to some SEC Championship games.

This is Texas A&M. Second ranked AD in the country as far as revenue. Biggest stadium out there in the richest state out there with talent everywhere (allegedly - I actually think this is their problem). And they have mid-level type results.

It wasn't until they brought in Jimbo, who understands the need for dominant line play, that they started to really get after it.

The vote rules are what they are, but there's nothing aside from money keeping a program from simply leaving the conference. If enough blue bloods felt it was in their best long term interest to bail on the SEC and form a different conference with other blue bloods, that can and would happen and we'd very likely be left out.

But as exactly as you said, there's a reason we get an even revenue split in the SEC. Our value isn't TV sets, but a respectable program that's role is reliably a doormat and doesn't run their mouths too much. I think you could make this argument for us, OM, UK, USC, Vandy, Arky, and Mizzou. Easily replaceable in terms of what we offer to the collective pot in terms of true competitiveness and TV sets.

It's a formula that clearly works. The conference is the most successful and wealthy - hard to argue otherwise. Could it be even better? Sure, but there would be significant risk to that.

Long term plus in that we historically would never and likely will never compete head to head against UT/OU. That will be Bama and UGA's challenge to manage. No change for us here. However, this will give us an inherent better respectability for a Texas or Oklahoma recruit now (that is OSU/TTech/TCU/etc. talent) that you open up Norman, College Station, and Austin as SEC territory. Just an easier sell on the conference side of things for a kid that might otherwise want to stay closer to home from a competition view.

Short term also a win because Leach loves to recruit Texas anyhow and this just makes his job a bit easier for the type of athlete he's going to be targeting.

I’d argue that what you just mentioned could even apply to schools from other conferences as well. This move makes the SEC the unquestioned king of power conferences, and kids are going to want to play in it.

Will we beat a blue blood for a 5*? Probably not, but now 3 and 4* kids choosing between us and schools like GA Tech, Miami, FSU, etc are really going to have to think about which conference they want to play in. SEC is about to be 6A ball while everyone else is 5A and on down

MSU gets a bigger annual $EC paycheck, becomes more irrelevant in football, but baseball gets even better once the super conferences give the big 17 off sign to the NCAA and its scholarship limitations. I guess I’ll deal with it
