Read down towards the Q & A. President Boren wants major change in the Big 12 or they will be out. I think Jim Delaney needs to put the full court press on the Sooners and KU comes with no matter what.

I've always thought KU was a natural fit to the B1G when they added us. Personally I thought the B1G should have added KU and Mizzou when they took us. Rutgers and Maryland were always going to be there. I really want KU and OU as it strengths the west in football with OU. You get a top 3 all time college basketball program in KU.

That way you can move Purdue East and have two 8 team divisions. All the west teams would be in the central time zone and all the east teams would be in the eastern time zones.

KSU belongs in the Mtn. West with schools like Colorado State, Boise State, Utah State, etc. Oklahoma State isn't getting brought to the B1G and OU would part ways with them if it meant OU was going down with the ship.

Interesting tweet from Frank the Tank. He blogs all the time about college conference expansion.

So, he seems to be saying that Beebe sucked and Texas is looking out only for Bevo. We could have told him that (and probably did) years ago.

I really hope this happens, and it sure seems like there is a lot of smoke right now.

My only issue with the 8 team divisions is that we would only get to play 2 teams from the other division with a 9- game conference schedule. That means we might only see a particular team like tOSU or Michigan potentially 2 out of every 8 years.

I rather have OU and KU every year and occasionally get UM/tOSU/PSU/MSU than what we have now. We don't get Michigan until 2018 I think.

I agree with this.

This whole thing has been lined up for a while now. The GOR is what is holding it up obviously. It is so vaguely worded it is hard for a school to estimate what the true cost would be. Ideally, OU and KU would want texas to either go independent or Pac12 and then the conference can dissolve without penalty. But we all know texas enjoys having their own little conference to run. In lieu of something significant to compel texas to move, this impasse will have to wait until the end of GOR draws near enough for the schools to bite the bullet.

In a 16 team conference, I think you have 4 4 team divisions. You play 3 teams every year and half (6) the rest on a 2/2 schedule. With OU and KU added, say those two with Iowa and us in a Plains division, maybe tOSU, PSU Rutgers and Maryland in the East, and so on.

Can OU and KU leave without bringing OSU and K St. with them?

2009 I'd have said no. 2016, with the thought of both schools in both states possibly being left out in the cold, I'd say yes. But that's my ignorant opinion.

I thought texas made 0u and ku sign away their first born and right arm, forever, as a loyalty pledge to the lhn conferance?

OU and KU in the Big would be better than good for us.

Frank the Tank is usually more right than wrong.
I hope this happens.
it would probably open texas recruiting up a lot more.

I don't see the pods playing out as it doesn't always give you a clear path to picking the top 2 teams to play in a Championship game. I think you see them sticking with divisions so you can keep more rivalry type games being played on a yearly basis.

I would love to see OU and KU join the B1G.

It may not be popular with the Texas hate among some of the fan base, but it would actually be a great thing if we could bring in UT and maybe another Texas school (Baylor/TCU/Houston).

Why?

  1. It opens up Texas recruiting again. I think moving to the B1G really hurt our recruiting down there in many ways.
  2. Texas isn't going to get control of the conference like before.
  3. The number of eyeballs in the Texas market is huge.
  4. OU and KU each have great brands in their respective sports.
  5. Strengthens the B1G even more so against the SEC.
  6. It creates 2 divisions of 9 teams and would make the B1G West feel a little more like home.
The B1G would be a Super Conference.

I think it's just a shot avcross the bow of the ship called the ss Texas. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to add two or more schools to keep the big 22 intact. Most schools in that conference in serious trouble if it breaks up.

It's not happening so save hours of threads and just move on for now.
There priority is not to move. Highly likely something will happen to move that league closer to others without schools leaving.

that would be a great move, tcu and bu, are the best teams in texas, that would open up big 10 recruiting in texas. and force ut to join the sec or pac. and ksu would have to scramble too. the big 10 would get texas tv sets, and a decent bball program in ku too.

I don't know why OU and KU would come to the B1G... It just doesn't make sense, unless there's some shady dealings going on...

Is that the right way to hint at impropriety, yorocco? Or was I too obvious? I'm not as smooth as you, so any help would be appreciated.

Kansas would be the best basketball program in the Big 10. If Kansas has a "decent" basketball program...I would be scared to watch a college/university with a "good" program. Winking

OU brings nothing to the table for the Huskers. OU and Texas have always been all about what benefits them.Thinking the addition of OU somehow benefits Nebraska is like adding a shark to your chum line.

Ya know when we joined the B1G we thought we would be playing the original Big Ten teams, Delaney changed that by adding Maryland & Rutgers so weren't going to be able to play all the B1G teams enough the way it was, hell it took us 6 years to even play Indiana which we finally will this coming season.
this year....

I'd much rather play KU and OU than Maryland, Penn St and Rutgers and it's advantage to only beat Michigan and tOSU or MSU in the B1G CCG.

OU might not bring nothing to the table for Nebraska, but it brings one of the the top brands the history of college football to the conference. Kansas? Great. I hate basketball, so I guess they don't really excite me.

What school doesn't do that? You think the move to the B1G wasn't all about what benefits Nebraska?

My point was to have posters think before putting OU on such a huge pedestal. I realize all schools do this but am always surprised by the huge OU love fest on this site. Nothing they do will ever benefit us in any way.

I don't think basketball is a huge coup in general, so it doesn't really matter how good KU is in basketball. Conference realignment is all about football, not basketball, the money just isn't there to make the move for the sake of basketball. So I'm not really sure why the B1G would want anything to do with Kansas. The latest expansion to the B1G was based on acquiring football blue blood (increase value of the brand) and sizable increase in viewer footprint. Kansas doesn't really do any of that. Oklahoma does one of those things... Texas does all of those things but is geographically discontinuous (and would never give up their throne in the Big 12). Other than Notre Dame and/or possibly an ACC school, Oklahoma is the only other school I can see the B1G making a run at. Delaney is quite strategic too.... If he could take away a linchpin in a conference, big 12 or ACC, that would lead to its demise, it would not surprise me in the least bit to see him do it.

Culturally, OU fits with the SEC, not the BIG.
Neither OU or Texas will EVER be part of the Big Ten. No matter how much they talk, it just won't happen.
Personally, I am glad it won't.

Money trumps culture. I think it could happen if it was the best deal for both parties. But it looks OU would prefer to stay in the Big 12 if they add two more teams and have their own network. I think that will be what happens.
