Rumors the backup QB dad is the one who leaked the screenshots. QB has deleted his Venmo account. Big question I have is, are Venmo transactions really public? And if so, why would anyone ever use Venmo for anything? Also, what kind of an idiot do you have to be to put gambling in the memo field when you're a college athlete?

You can make them public but most intelligent people turn that off.

ETA: The transaction amount wasn't public, but you could leave messages about payments. Kind of cross between social media post tied to a payment.

That's insane that it's even an option. Especially if it's the default that you have to turn off. And no, I've never used Venmo and I'm sure I never will.

If that’s true , I’d cut the backup q b. Mateer is one of the best q b s in the country and you don’t beat him out by leaking dirt. Real team first guy there.

common sense needs to applied here, if this was five years ago and not related to a game he played in, slap on the wrist. If they go all Pete rose on him it’s just more stupidity hurting the game.

I think this is a nothing burger. If the only evidence is a public Venmo transaction description, there is no evidence.

It is ridiculous, and to this day, I have no idea why people started using Venmo over PayPal. To my knowledge, there are zero advantages, and the literal home page is a giant feed telling you all about when Karen paid Shannon for a utility bill or Kyle paid Mark to split last night’s Uber.

I strongly prefer Apple Pay, but will use Pay Pal on rare occasions. I'm never downloading any of the other apps.

What is the 17n problem people have with gambling? It's legal and even Baptist preachers and deacons are doing it these days.

If I can make money off of it, then players should have the right to gamble as well.

They should also have the right to shave points or even throw the game if they want to make some extra scratch.

You know Vegas is already factoring that s h i t in.

Gambling? WTF. They should fire the acting AD right now and go do a national search for one with P4 experience. And make sure he has ties to OU. And maybe he played football somewhere else but had relatives who played at OU. If they can find someone like that, you know they would have to hire him to clean up this mess.

Yep, it’s public by default. You have to change your settings to make them private.

It’s how they found out Matt Gaetz was paying underage girls and prostitutes.

You guys are acting like you would expect a college student that has all of sudden been handed more money than he knows what to do with but is also barley old enough to buy cigarettes and beer is going to use sound judgement and good old fashioned horse sense.

House investigators find evidence Matt Gaetz paid for sex, frequently used illegal drugs

"Congressional investigators found evidence that former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida regularly paid women for sex; had sex with a 17-year-old, breaking Florida’s statutory rape laws; and frequently used illegal drugs, among other violations of House ethics rules. The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress, the report said."

Highlight where his transactions were on the public feed.

@Dawgg simply used this as a way to bring out something political.

I actually wasn’t trying to make it political. It was relevant to the topic and was a lot of people’s first exposure to the visibility of transactions on Venmo.

My understanding was that the Venmo payments Matt Gaetz used for paying underage girls and prostitutes for sex were unknowingly marked “Public”, but if I’m mistaken and the Venmo payments Matt Gaetz used for paying underage girls and prostitutes for sex were actually marked “Private”, then I apologize to Matt Gaetz for impugning his otherwise pristine character and to you personally because reading my post was obviously a triggering event for you.

I hope you have a great rest of your day, buddy. Get some rest.

If you can't understand how being in debt to a bookie for any games that you bet on, regardless if you played in them or how long ago it was, could lead to the bookie forcing you to do something detrimental to the game or for the bookie making you give him insider information to drop your debt, I don't know what to tell you. Punishing someone for breaking the rules is not more stupidity hurting the game, but you being you, I can see why you would think that.

Do you have a link to where Mateer is in debt to a bookie ?

I have a link to where he paid what he called gambling debts. I doubt anything happens here. But if he does get suspended it’s hard to feel sorry for him being such a dubmass. It would be interesting to know how much the payments were & what Mateer says the payments were really for (he hasn’t that I’m aware of).

Depends. If those were $5,000 payments this is a different story than if they were $15 payments. I also question why he didn’t say those weren’t gambling payments, they were for _____. But I agree, I doubt anything happens. And I agree with the poster who said hed kick the backup QB off the team.

Statutory rape is acceptable if the public doesn't pay for it?
Statutory rape Verys by state. Age of consent in Miss is 16. There are some limitations to that like being in a position of authority. Few others. I still think someone is pretty sick for doing it. Basically if she is 16 ClintonInhelan can hit it.

Am I the only one that realizes this is just friends being funny. Same with Arch. I remember writing shít like For Last Night Big Boy in the for line on checks to friends just hoping the teller saw it when they went to make the deposits. I do the same **** on Venmo. I guess I need to stop in case I catch late life fame.

i didn't say that he was, but the possibility of athletes getting in debt and having the issues I mentioned is a big part of why gambling is illegal for athletes.
Right, but I’m only commenting on his case, not generalities. Mateer could have bet his brother 5 bucks, a frat brother 3 bucks or just verbally joking. It’s not really correct to let Your imagination create scenarios where Mateer is betting large sums of money, in debt to bookies and throwing games. This was 4-5 years ago and there isn’t much evidence of any wrong doing.

Maybe it is & maybe it’s not. The Okie QB isn’t saying. Do you know the other guy is a buddy of his? Or the campus bookie? And how freaking stupid do you have to be as a scholarship NCAA athlete to put that in the description as a joke?

It’s absolutely pretty stupid, but 20 year old dudes aren’t know for sound decision making.
