GS can only dream of an upset over the no. 6 team In the country. The last time GS beat a ranked team was October 18, 2009, when Rutgers beat No. 23 USF. Seventeen years.

I have no idea how you find 92 new players out of 105 in one year. But this guy has won everywhere he's been and has an innovative offense he developed at Incarnate Word brought to WSU then N. Texas.

Day should be safe, but Ohio State is in the category of psychotic schools that do not suffer even the smallest of errors. Was really surprised with Day's management of time outs and failure to kick a field goal last night. Maybe he got a text from Rutgers HC telling him to "go for it" and took his advice?
But to a larger point, they are bad examples to compare to Schiano. They are leaps and bounds and many mountains above him.

I’m a fan of GS. Mostly due to Flood and Ash. I do think it’s time to move on. His offensive philosophy is just too ancient and all the stars have to align for us to be good. When you see an upset, it’s always due to a dynamic QB. GS loves the pro style QBs but we can’t protect them.
Lanning promoting Mehringer to OC might say something. His offense was @SS at RU and it's @SS at Oregon so far, and they HAVE talent. Day has 2 former NFL coordinators on his staff. Matt Patricia was lights out as a DC last year. He did what people thought Belichick was going to do defensively at UNC. The jury is out on the Arthur Smith OC hire. He resurrected Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee, but was a dud in Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
Ohio St had some really well designed plays. I was impressed. They had a chance to put up 30 against a VERY good Texas defense.

All kidding aside, it's not fair to judge Mehringer for his performance at Rutgers. He was too young and too inexperienced to get thrown into that role.
And you left out Lanning promoting the co-DC to DC. Gave up 556 yards and 39 points to OK State.

I think you are a bit off on that, minus the UMass part. People change their minds at different stages and at different times. What matters is that there are very few left standing to support him. The "I told you so" comments don't really do anything to advance the cause, IMO.
This was a really pivotal year for Lanning with all the talent they returned. I was curious to see how promoting both the OC and DC from within would go, and early returns are looking worse than I would have imagined possible (though in fairness to our old buddy Drew, their defense looks like the bigger issue).

No one is saying this. If anything GS has near-universally lost the fanbase more quickly than I would have thought possible; UMass made some of his most ardent supporters jump ship immediately. Essentially everyone is on the same page now. It’s over.
That's what good coaches do, they find a tendency in the other team that helps them. Then they design a game plan to take advantage of that tendency. Joe said the same thing about us.
Unfortunately, we have a HC and OC that have no feel for the game and believe calling the same scripted plays over and over again are what works. No thought to the other team or what's happening in the game at that moment. Have a WR that is over a foot taller and 30lbs bigger than the other team's CB, that you just need to throw the ball in his vicinity for him to make the catch, do you throw to him during a big play? Nah, you run that scripted mesh play with your QB that is starting his first game. Why? Because that is what you ran in practice like 3 weeks ago and it worked one time during training camp so you put it in as one of the scripted plays.
Sums up the RU offensive philosophy. I would add that they run that mesh play because they saw some other team run it successfully, not understanding why it works or what's needed to make it work. Duff is succeeding despite the offensive philosophy. The misuse of Raymond is just offensive malpractice.
