It's early, but we are once again near the bottom nationally in sacks/game (4.0) and sack percentage (17.39%). The only teams worse than us on the latter are Rice and Ball State. Only Ball State, MTSU, James Madison, Missouri State and Utah State give up more sacks per game.
I know it seems crazy to talk about firing a coach after a 2-0 start, but to be fair, I have been calling for Teasley to be fired since 2023.
Yes, 2 games is a small sample size for THIS season, but the overall sample size for Teasley is now 27 games. Statistically we are picking up right where we left off last season. From 2020-2022 we allowed 2.7, 2.5 and 2.5 sacks per game. Not great, but sort of middle of the pack nationally in those years. Teasley took over and we instantly plummeted to near the bottom nationally with 3.7 in 2023 and 3.2 last year. Now we sit at 4.0 so far this year. If you want to look at OL stats since 2023, you can instantly scroll to the bottom of the list to look for our name.
What are we even doing here? Twenty-seven games in, there's no wiggle room for debate. Along the way, some fans have blamed on the QB or the WRs or the humidity...anything but the OL and the OL coach. In part b/c some like to make it seem they have a better understanding of the game and make it seem too elementary to instantly blame awful OL numbers on the OL. But we're at a point where there's nobody else to blame. It's been multiple QBs. Multiple different WR corps. We've recruited well at the position. The constant has been Teasley.
He is unquestionably awful at his job. There's not one single thing anyone can point about the product on the field in defense of him. I doubt a midseason firing will do much good b/c I presume if any of our coaches who deal with the OL were any good, we'd be seeing some improvement.
