a 59 year old guy beating all the young guns. How sweet. He's 10 shots better than Tiger through 2 rounds. Pretty amazing..
Only former winners over 60 that don't meet other exemptions would not qualify to play. Even if he makes top ten, he could play next year.

If the entire field was sitting at +3 or +4, then yea you might have an argument. Watson is having the tournament of his life. What it shows more than anything is that a good golfer past his prime can still play with the best despite not hitting it as far is he has a great week, plays from the fairway, and putts well.
Also, how do we know that Phil Mickeslon, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen, or Jim Furyk won't come out of nowhere and have a spectacular couple days to be in contention in a major in their late 50s?

He can play when he's 60-- not when he's over 60 unless he gets the Top 10 exemption for doing well at St. Andrews in 2010 or, of course, getting a World Top 50 or Top 30 on either the PGA or Euro money list.
