I know I am crazy but needing your help. When St.Rita got their new digs at the old Quigley South their football field was still there. My question is I don't remember for some reason if they had lights but after Rita left I swear I watched some CPL games played there doubleheaders on Saturday. It was renamed Yong Field??? Can somebody help me with this??? I think it was done for 1 or 2 years only. Thanks!!!!

Cronin Stadium was used for a couple years after Rita left. It never had lights though. I think it was destroyed around 97 or 98.

God I miss that stadium. SR should be ashamed at the lack of toughness tonight. Rice is better and more talented but those teams who played old Cronin Stadium never got out-toughed

That's true, and they tried hard. They just don't have players with that "hardened edge" that historically defined past Rita teams, even those that weren't very good.

That's the best Rice team I've ever seen, though I don't really remember their 85 team. They have a legit chance to win State though their defense can be exposed.

I didn't see it, but I was told that the soph game was a good one. Nice win by the Rita sophs.

They did rename it after the move. I recall the look in my father's eyes as he gazed onto the field during the last open house for the ole girl. Months later they made the decision to relocate. I remember him talking about how the field conditions of "The Pit" deterioratex rapidly as the season played on and the number of players who crashed into the west wall. I've only seen a partial tape of the 85 Rita-Rice game and all I can say is that must have been a hell of a game to play in.
