Observations:
1. For those who care about unis: THAT'S what the silver pants looked like. Also, that was a good helmet stripe combo. It was basically a USFL look.
2. I had forgotten that UT did not always have the checkerboard end zone pattern. The 45-degree angled, Joe-Theissman-facemask helmet logo looks really lame.
3. That win felt great. I watched the game as a freshman in the lobby of Hightower Hall. There was a nice gathering of fans to greet the team when they arrived back at McArthur Hall late that afternoon.
4. Don Smith was as exciting as any player we've had over the last 40 years.

William Howard of UT that day ran for massive yds or so it seemed but Don Smith had a late run down left sideline to score and then we held them on final series and they were deep in our territory.

which led me to 94 MSU-UT = Eric Moulds was a total bad ***. you're anmstate wr andwanna measure yourself measure against him.

which led me to '11 egg bowl video of last twoplaysby TXMuddawg and that piece of **** bradley sowell = ina 10 secclip the essence of why Idespise everything om.so eat your heart out lars larson.

bruiser and the rest of their crew defended it as a fair and legal block.

I listened to the 86 game on radio, 94 down by that end zone and the 98 game down where perless price caught the backbreaker.

We had high hopes after starting 6-1. Then the bottom fell out. Don Smith is my favorite MSU QB. I would love to have seen Don Smith behind some of the o-lines of the JWS era. Don would be a great fit in our present scheme as well.

Jack Cristil first termed the phrase "Wrap it in Maroon and White!" His actual quote was, "You can wrap this Big Orange in Maroon and White!" This game was one of my all time favs. Thanks for posting.

It is unforgivable that he stood for letting the SEC schedule us for Bama-Auburn-LSU back to back to back for so many years. It didn't end until e SEC went to 12 teams, forcing rescheduling.

guys and a few State guys. Great memories of that run by Don Smith. Totally unexpected. Winsat Syracuse and at TN. We were on top of the world...until the last 4 games of the season. As I recall, we were ranked in the top 20 at 6-1, despite that loss to USM. BTW,I was there for that damn loss to USM and it was bitter. Without that loss, we would've been ranked in the top 10 at thatpoint in the season.

We were having to work hard to beat Tulane, Arkansas State, a poor Florida team (Emmitt Smith arrived the next year). By the time we faced legit teams (Auburn, Alabama, LSU), we were gassed, and they beat us like a rented mule.

or are you really blaming Templeton for a schedule that existed when he was in elementary school? It seems to me that Larry is the one that broke it up.
