Ole Miss and the Ed Center

That said, I don't know anything about an NCAA investigation or the likelihood of one...but there is definitely something fishy going on with the Ed Center and "The Plan". I am no insider and I have no idea what we (State) do or don't do when it comes to recruiting...so this is not a holier than thou post - just what I have heard. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px; ">

I heard about all the Cam stuff last December and just refused to believe it. I heard that their tuition was paid for and they were provided housing (some with Bear boosters). Last year, the Bears really ramped it up. Apparently, they had 5 FL recruits, 1 GA recruit and Vincent Sanders all at the Ed Center. Again, they were provided tuition and housing and driven to class by a guy who also took them to JSU to workout. The Bears will probably try to explain this all away by saying these players had jobs but I don't think that is the case. Keep in mind that some of the FL guysare notreturning to UM, including Tony Grimes, so some of these guys don't have anything to lose by telling the truth. Finally, I don't know if the people at the Ed Center have any allegiance to the Bears, which would probably be an issue for them if an investigation ever took place. </font></span></div>

kids have been getting qualified there for years. coco hodge and clarence mcdougal went there to get qualified for state years ago. what is happening now that is considered new?

I don't know if that's even possible, but that seems to be the cruxt of the allegation -- that OM is paying for/housing/entertaining out-of-staters to get qualified there.

the players mentioned above aren't Clinton, MS residents. I don't think it's about them getting eligible. It's more about the benefits provided while getting eligible.

to get out-of-state guys eligible as well and paying their expenses while doing so. I have no trouble believing this has been happening but I have a hard time believing the NCAA has gotten involved with Teflon Slive overseeing things.

Delvin Jones would be academically eligible. UT sure didn't. When he signed with Ole Miss I just assumed it was an Ed O move of signing a guy just to boost your recruiting rankings. Yet, somehow, he managed to get in. That has to raise some eyebrows.

but how these kids afforded the life style associated with attending the Ed Center as out of state students. There appeared to be more heppin going on than might be allowed by NCAA rules but what the hell, these boys need heppin.

Hodge & McDougal are from Clinton and could live at home while attending the Ed Center. On the other hand, accomodationswere coordinated and provided for UM recuits while attending the Ed Center. Bobby Massie, Tony Grimes and the other FL recruits were not part of the Cellular South Gameplan which provides assiatance for MS high school players. Also, would be interested to hear where they stayed in Jackson and who paid the tuition.

But the question is whether it has been exploited and provided an avenue for improper benefits in the form of paid tuition, living arrangements, etc. <div>

It is how they get there, how they pay for it, where they stay when they get there (if they are out of town guys) and how they pay for that.

MSU got put on probation mainly for the fact that Tommy Kelly and Demetric Wright stayed in an apartment that was supposedly at a discount while they were going to EMCC. That is the whole point, how did the out of state recruits pay for the Ed Center plus all their living expenses in Jackson. Apartments in Jackson are not cheap. Most of these guys couldn't afford to go to school without a scholarship much less go somewhere like that for a few months.
