It makes me really uncomfortable that regardless of the outcome, one of the two teams has to lose. For their coaches, their players, their fans....it's just devastating to think that EVERY time they play---someone is really really disappointed.

They should quit keeping score and give out prizes to both teams every time either team scores. That way everyone can celebrate equally. And, if they can figure out a way to make it work financially, they should give out prizes, food, drinks, etc. for everyone in the crowd!!!!

Think how cool that would be.

I am going to protest every song played at CWS this season so we can sit in silence and keep everyone happy.

Well there was the infamous "Cotton Eyed Joe" protest back in late 90's / early 00's where the Lexington elite got their panties Iin a wad over the song, going to the Athletics dept with a demand that it not be played over the P.A. system because it made Kentucky seem to "hillbilly"

Oh and the "Touchdown Kentucky" song...hokey as it was, it didn't escape disdain because it made people stand up.

Its funny because at about that same time I was at AT&T park for a Giants game and what came on during a break in the game...Cotton Eyed Joe. No outrage, no condemnation of stereotyping, no social commentary at all from a fan base and community that would be the farthest thing from "hillbilly". They just accepted it as a fun song....shocking.

There's no reason that anyone should feel uncomfortable anywhere! Everyone should win! It's not right that players should leave the game feeling bad because another team just kicked the crap out of them.
And what about the fans? Why should they feel bad? After all, they had to pay to get in . If they just paid to get in they should feel great when they leave and how much better could it be than for your team to not actually win but not lose either. That way its fair for everyone.
And the coaches, everyone could have a perfect record, better yet don't keep one that way all coaches are awesome! Even the losers!!!
Come tournament time.....EVERYONE WINS THE TITLE!!! :joy:[roll][banana]

It is really sad to watch this stuff keep happening. I am an independent but do tend toward the left on some issues. But, this crap disturbs me and along with the racial BS might just prompt me to abandoning their camp completely.

I do think one aspect that makes me feel slightly better is that this is a very small minority of ultra left wing Dems who push these silly PC agenda. Most Dems I know hate it as much as anyone and laugh at the ridiculousness that people spend their lives fighting for these "causes".

Close, but it's a little bit different. I don't recall someone in blackface saying "us darkies sho is happy, massa!" Plus, Old Ky Home is an antislavery song, if I recall.

Maybe a different version of Dixie that I saw looking up the lyrics but didn't see that line.

I thought the objection to Dixie was due more to its association as the de facto battle song or anthem of the Confederacy, not so much its overt racism in the lyrics itself. I mean hell,at the time it was written, it pretty much was the land of cotton. If that reference is in itself offensive, I guess black players will now refuse to play in the Cotton Bowl?

I just wish people would grow a GotDamn set and quit letting every touching thing in the world offend them. I wish they'd play Dixie every touching ten minutes just to piss somebody off.

Just wait until some stupid-*** pc policeman does a Google of the original lyrics of My Old Kentucky Home. You'll see a movement to ban the playing of it during UK games.

The SF crowd probably enjoyed Cotton Eyed Joe because it was recorded by a Swedish group called Rednex (from Wikipedia):

Rednex is a Swedish electronic country group, known for their unique sound comprising modern dance, pop and techno sounds mixed with classical country, folk and bluegrass elements. The band originally consisted of the lead singer Mary Joe (Annika Ljungberg), alongside Bobby Sue (Kent Olander), Ken Tacky (Arne Arstrand), Billy Ray (Jonas Nilsson) and Mup (Patrick Edenberg). The group enjoyed massive success throughout the 1990s with novelty hits such as "Cotton Eye Joe", "Old Pop in an Oak", "The Spirit of the Hawk" and "Wish You Were Here".

Note that one of the band members chose "Ken Tacky" as his show name.

Every time I hear Dixie, I look for the toothless Cletus driving the '78 Chevy truck with Dixie as its horn.
