I might get ripped for this, but...

Recruiting is dirty business, always has been, always will be. There are different levels of dirty. There's booster stuff, there's coach stuff. Right now the Bears are on the cutting edge with their staff. They are showing kids tons of attention and taking advantage of natural "in's" with their high level targets, in addition to the behind the scenes stuff with the booster network. I hope: 1. we keep our boosters out of it entirely, 2. Dan gets our staff up to speed on using social media to our advantage. Number 1 is wrong, number 2 is just working hard. I hope our staff changes will help in this area.

A while back it was said that he sent Tunsil over 800 FB messages. With the schedules of these coaches, they do not play on FB all day. I wonder if these kids understand they are getting semi-catfished by staffers? If it working, tip of the cap though

800 messages from March to Feb. is only about 4-5 a day. Doesn't take long to send those.

Add 400 to gf and however else many to mom, brother, etc... And he's just 1 recruit. I don't buy Kiffin sends all those but again if it works it doesn't matter if its a ga doing it

Creepy, yes. But it worked. We've got to get past this concept of doing things the "right way" and realize that you've got to do what works or you're going to get beat in recruiting every time.

I guess it aided in his recruitment. With a combination of other things as well.

I hear what you are saying as far as getting current and competitive in the recruiting game. I am just turned off how big of a circus it has become with the effect of social media. That's a personal opinion.

That being said if that is what works we need to do it also. Sad truth.

I'm turned off by it too. It's a dirty business and it's gotten a lot dirtier in the last 5-10 years. We can either get dirty and compete or we can give up.

And yes, obviously that was only one component of his recruitment. But you'd better believe they didn't send those messages for the hell of it. Like another poster said, I doubt Kiffen sent all of those personally no matter what he said. Doesn't matter. The result is the same as if he did.
