Showtime don't care about the line of scrimmage. We sign linemen from UTEP not other big power 4 schools. Sometimes that's not bad if you can eval talent and develop but I didn't see much like that from the staff last year. Need to see some player developed and get more for less
O line we pulled a starter from Virginia and not sure if starter but someone from Kentucky, a center?
We're doing better. Still a ways to go but building in the right direction.
Hopefully in 2026 when the schedule flips were in a good position. Look what Kiffen did with his qb. Pulled a top qb and built a team up then went all in. We keep building hopefully 2027 we're talking about the playoffs. Sucks we're still talking about building in the portal era but that's how far behind we are and with only so much money.

And it took OM a few years to build that up after getting a proven DC.
The cost for a strong 2-3 deep line on both sides is too much for even the Rich and Famous of Lafayette County

It's gotten even too expensive for Bama. And I thought I would never see that day.

It’s not too expensive for Bama, the new guy hasn’t earned their buy in. He’s probably gone after this year and the next guy will get the money train rolling again.

Yes, but the cost for good linemen is exponentially growing. And there's 10-15 on each side of the ball. Can't consistently buy a championship anymore. Especially with a few key injuries to your top starting linemen in season. Most teams go big on their first string and hope for the best. Other teams poach the 2nd string with promising a starting spot, star treatment and promise that their coaching staff will help make their NFL 1st round dreams come true.

Because State can't attract top linemen doesn't mean Showtime doesn't know the value of linemen.

Seems like we're addressing these problems in the portal. Not like they did but we've gotten some guys that should compete
Lot of quantity, not a lot of quality in our portal class. We got a few (not a lot, a few$ players that can contribute, but no difference makers.

We didn't even have the roster size last season to have a full scout team. The train wreck left here by the previous coaches will take time to fix. We did well in the portal, how well TBD

They won 10 games. That’s not exactly a terrible ROI.
Head coaches are typically roughly compensated $1M per win. Ticket sales and merchandise sales go up. Enrollment and giving goes up a little but goes up a LOT when you win it all. It's a big loss to not make the playoffs for the school and the major donors, if they even care. It's a brand spend that is fuzzy math.

If you think a SEC school from Mississippi with 10 wins is underachieving, I can’t help you.
Considering what their draft class looks like and their spend they definitely underachieved

did they have a bad season? No, but they were more talented than their record.

I'd take competing for a bowl game by 2027 at this point. It's great that we're getting kids that appear to be an improvement from what we had last year, but the overall talent of this roster is still behind every team in this league with the possible exception of Vandy
I hate to tell folks but Vandy spent $90K on a punter. They're spenders now.

Yeah, Vandy’s always made me nervous. Like SMU or Duke basketball, if they ever decided to get serious about something besides baseball, they could outspend every team in this conference without batting an eye

The schedule is a major factor too. Look at Indiana. Our schedule will flip after this year and if we continue to build and have stability and our nil grows/ continues to organize we should start making strides. Look for improvement on the field this year rather than record. The next two we should be back to where our baseline had been with making bowl games yearly and every fourth a playoff shot with the expansion. Again it's all how the schedule lays out. We'll have a couple years where we're looking at hopefully 6 wins and then the next two 8 to 10 hopefully. We'll see how ole miss does when they get a schedule like ours next year. It'll be interesting if they can find another dart that will stay for 3 years

They absolutely underachieved, but they were talented enough to where their floor was still 9-3 (I don’t put much stock in them beating Duke’s third string QB in the Gator Bowl).

They won’t be near as loaded in 2025 but they’ve got a few pieces and the floor for Kiffin in a 12 game season has been 8-4 to this point. So I’m sure they’ll be around there again. They once again have a pretty generous schedule, too. When two of your road games are State and Kentucky, that helps.
