At first looked like they will not miss a beat. I think they scored in four plays maybe five. Now their defense doesn't look as strong and after two interceptions and only up 7 to 0 after the first. I am sure they will get better, but right now they sure look to have taken a step back.

They were hyping Simmons “5 great passes” against GA this morning on SEC Nation. I can’t remember a guy getting as much preseason hype off one drive that this dude got.

I can see a scenario where Ole Miss less than 8 wins. Ky has a good defense. Ole Miss goes on the road to play them next week. If they lose that game, it is more than likely they will not win 8 games. They go to OU and GA. They get LSU, SC and Florida at home. Then throw in Tulane. You never know about that game.

Here's a little tidbit. After tonight, ole miss is the first SEC team in history to score more than 60 in 4 consecutive season opening games. You know what that really means?

1)They play crappy teams every year to start the season.
2) Kiffin likes to run up the score on weak teams to pad tram stats.

compare both our games today:

Lebby essentially calls off the dogs with 11 minutes to go up 34-10. Backups play on both sides the final 9 minutes. Lebby is pissed the 2nd and 3rd team defense gives up the final TD drive in the last 5 minutes, but doesn't shove the starters back out there to stop the drive so that the reserves can get some live PT. Result 34-17 final.

Kiffin is up 56-7 less than 5 minutes to play and they get another score to make it 63-7 final. Didn't watch but I'm sure he was just trying to get reps for backups like Lebby was.

summary: no way we know who has more talent between USM & Ga. State.

we did however know going into the season that on paper, Ole Miss has more talent than State. Now we get to see if Lebby has started to close that gap!

It's been a consistent theme for Kiffin at Ole Miss. They never call off the dogs.

Entered the 4th quarter leading 42-7. The game is over, but he scores three more TDs on an already thoroughly defeated opponent. Threw 8 passes in getting the first two scores, then just ran it down their throat for the last completely unnecessary TD.

We threw 4 passes total in the 4th.

Let me play Devils advocate… if you teach your players to never let up and to play/expect to score on every possession, then they’ll be more likely to keep that mentality throughout every game they play. Putting up gaudy numbers will get you noticed and doing things like scoring in under 60 seconds will get in opponents heads. Despite what you might call poor sportsmanship, you can’t deny that Kiffens approach gives them the best chance to be playoff contenders. And I’d wager any one of yall would have rejoiced if we had hung 60 on USM.

It’s called a killer instinct. And it’s one big thing separating good coaches/teams from mediocre ones. Only losers b*tch about running up the score.

Kiffin could afford to keep his starters in. He has enough returning players that they have some experience as a team. Ours have little or no experience as a team so Lebby has to get the 2d and 3d string in every chance he gets.

OM wins by 56 and you find any way possible to make an excuse for it. Coaching, comparing talent against multiple generations, planet alignment, global warming, etc.

Meanwhile in Starkville, the Hattiesburg High win should have been a comparable point spread. Can you just all agree we suck left hind tit and will until we don’t?

If Old Miss put their reserves in and they ran the score up then ok. If they kept the starters in and ran up the score it was stupid. It makes no sense to beat down an opponent unless you are trying to pad stats. A good coach will get the reserves some playing time to see how they respond in real game situations.

All I know is, Nick Saban generally had the best team and the best talent in the college game for most of his tenure at Alabama. And he somehow found a way to take his foot fully off the gas late in games when his opponent was thoroughly defeated, while still maintaining a fire within his locker room that led to many national championships.

That's a lesson Kiffin missed while on that staff.

I hate Ole Miss as much as anybody here, but I don't think this is a problem. There's no such thing as an "unnecessary TD." Georgia State players (who are grown adults and professional athletes) are welcome to stop them from scoring if they don't like it.

It's not even an Ole Miss thing for me. I just don't like it much when coaches do what Kiffin does in blowouts. I'm fine with folks who disagree.

I hear you, but we paid them over a million dollars to take that *** kicking as a glorified practice.
