Ole Miss's 12th game might be a Div 1-AA...

We were f'ed by TCU. Had a 1-1 series with them with this year's game on ESPN at 6:45. They backed out a few weeks ago for a game with Clemson. At that point, Idaho was our only shot. Had deal worked out and they backed out as well. Lots of people pissed.

Doesn't really matter that much to me. I'm annoyed with our administration, because they're the reason we're stuck in this spot. However, I don't think it makes much of a difference. I doubt we'll be in too much danger of going 6-6, and unless we go 6-6, it won't make a difference, especially if we end up playing them both early in the season before SEC play like it appears will happen.

but on the outside, the admin's handling of this has been horrible.

Agree completely, and it gives me just one more reason to ***** about Boone and company. They've mishandled this badly. The fact that the TCU deal fell through sucks, but regardless it shouldn't have come to that. We should've had a deal finalized well before even having to consider the TCU deal.

Still, I like the fact that the two 1AA opponents will likely be back to back in September, especially since they'll be the two weeks before our Thursday night game at SC.

For one thing, no one really remembers what you do in September by the end of the season, so like Texas Tech last year, no one will even mention our two 1AA opponents if we're in the middle of a good stretch of football in October and November. My main concern with our early schedule right now is that SC game being a road Thursday night game. Playing two cupcakes in the weeks leading up to it will help negate some of that, as we'll basically have 3 weeks to start preparation for SC, limiting some of the negative effect of having a short week for a road game.

And it won't affect their bowl game much, if at all. Having 2 I-AA teams on the schedule didn't keep Texas Tech from making the Cotton Bowl last year. Hell, it really wouldn't matter if UM's 12th game was against a Div. II, Div. III, or NAIA team.</p>

that they don't decide to leave four hours before the game because "they don't want to play because they don't have to."

Everyone wants to blame the other schools, but this falls squarely on that 17'ing idiot Pete Boone. Pete Boone is the biggest cluster17 in college sports. He is the David Yellim of AD's. And let me say this, I am impressed with your AD, Byrne. He's a real good one, you guys got a steal in hiring him, and we just continue to get 17'd up the *** with Boone.

Exactly what have they done to mishandle the situation? This is a serious question as the only details I know are the ones that have been posted here. What can the admin really do if teams back out for better deals and/or pay days other than negotiate ridiculous buyouts, which would probably keep teams from signing deals in the first place? The same thing happened to us when Central Michigan backed out of a home-and-home with us for more money from UGA. That led to our infamous trip to Ruston.

Forget talk of 6 wins. Of course Ole Miss will win 6 D-1 games.

Ole Miss should be worried because this year is their shot to do something significant. Win the SEC or be 2nd or 3rd in the SEC with a shot at a BCS game. But if the Rebels finish in position for a BCS game, having 2 games against D-II teams is going to look bad and might be the difference between an Orange Bowl and a Cotton Bowl.

Have a dream chance to step on to the national stage, the Rebels are about to trip over their own feet.

Honestly, schedule strength will be the least of our worries. If we're up for a potential at large BCS bid, our biggest obstacle will be our small fanbase and lack of national appeal. Why do you think Ohio State went to the BCS last year over Boise State? Boise State was rated higher, but OSU was chosen because of $$$. They are one of the biggest TV and ticket draws in the country.

Especially if we play both D-1AA opponents in September (as it appears will happen), it will rarely get a mention. Again, Texas Tech played two 1AA teams last year in September, but by mid-October no one ever mentioned it. All anyone remembers is what you do at the end of the season.

Now, hypothetically if we were to go undefeated, and two other teams were to also go undefeated, that's the only situation where I could see it being brought up, but what are the chances of that happening? And honestly, with the last three BCS champions coming from the SEC, I think they'd have a really hard time leaving out an undefeated SEC team.

should be more worried about the fact that their search for a 12th opponent is now well documented and the smaller schools are going to demand, and get, a ridiculous amount of money to fill out their schedule.
