in one of the junior majors but what do people expect from him on the worldwide stage. Is he expected to be a top 10 player?

Considering he is an honest to goodness American makes it even more impressive. I thought all college tennis players were from Europe.

his name is Billy Pate. He actually played at State. Anyway, he has the life. He's paid to travel the world to "recruit." Beats going to Coldwater, MS to recruit.

he must have a very high ceiling. from all i've heard, he has the size and skills to make a name for himself on the tour. top 10 expectations don't get thrown around very often, though.

I think we will be back for one more year, he is only 18. Probably will play #1 next year for the rebels. He is still playing as a junior this year. Look for him to make some noise in the French and at Wimbledon in the Junior Division. I think he has a chance to be a top 50 player for sure.

I think he turned 18 a couple of months ago. Understand his sister goes, or went, to MSU. Don't remember her name.

He has a LONG way to go before top 10 can be mentioned. Right now he doesn't have that big shot to separate him from the bunch.

What he does have is extraordinary toughness and determination. He plays smart too.

If he can get a sponsor, I look for him to be on the sattelite circuit soon. Of course, he could try it out as an amateur this summer and fall and still return to OM next Jan if it doesn't work out. Guess that would depend on his financial situation, which I know absolutely nothing about. He plays at the French Jr. Open beginning Sunday.

Hope all Mississippians can share in the pride we Rebels feel for Devin. This is great for MS tennis.

He made the finals of the US Open Juniors tournament last fall as an unseeded player. I doubt he ever makes the top 10, but he's easily the best Mississippi prospect since former UM All-American Dave Randall who spent over a decade on the pro tour and was ranked as high as the 30s in doubles and has career wins over players like Andre Aggasi and Thomas Muster on his resume. There's absolutely no reason he shouldn't turn pro this summer. The longer he waits, the worse his chances are. I doubt he could ever reach the top 10 in singles, but he could break the top 100 and have a good pro career.
