The play before, the kicker made the kick. The refs called encroachment, and they had to replay the down, 5 yards closer. It was the wrong call. There was no contact by the defense before the snap. It was definitely offsides, and should've been a free play. It was a really, really bad call that cost Petal the game.

... Of course I'm sure this is all Germans now that I think about it.

High school rules don't distinguish between offsides and encroachment, or contact and no contact. Any neutral zone infraction by either the defense or offense is a dead ball call, whether contact was made or not.

Sleepy...you may be a great guy but you don't know squat about high school rules.
***Encroachment is a dead ball foul, therefore the "kick" never took place and there is nothing to decline except formoving the ball five yards.
***Contact is not required forEncroachment in High School rules: enter the neutral zone? Bang, it is encroachment.
***Even the Petal coach stated thepenalty was correctly enforced.
It may be a bad rule, but it wasn't a bad call.

Roughing the kicker on the next play? Now there, you may have an arguement.
