I looked at the medal count this morning and noticed no Russia. Did they not win anything or did they not even send a team to compete?

They've been banned since the 2024 games for invading a neighboring country. Their athletes competed as "individual neutral athletes." Belarus is banned for their support of the invasion.

Somewhat funny side note... When you stream a youth baseball game to youtube, if somebody has walk up songs for the kids, most of them get a copyright violation and your video is blacked out in Russia and Belarus. So, sucks for all the relatives of Kayden that live there.

They were band for doping since 2017. The invasion just added on. Their athletes can compete with other countries.
I haven’t watched national news since about 2017 so I guess I’ve actually missed something useful. Thank god for you guys.

I suppose the Olympics are doing just fine, ratings wise, but I think they need a new villain to replace the USSR. I dont like this cheering for everyone nonsense. I want a country or two that I can boo and scream "Fall! Fall!" At their athletes.

Or, maybe the US is the new villain?

Canada stepped into the breach this year.

I root against all the Americans that compete for China and Great Britain.

Eh...beating them for both hockey golds was nice, but this was Canada's worst Olympic performance since 2002 in Salt Lake. A good villain is actually a threat to win more.

They had the best hockey team in the world. And have been talking shlt for a year about it.

I don't care about figure skating or 17n curling. They were the bad guys in hockey and all they were left with is crying over the officiating.

The only thing the Canadians can beat us at is snootiness and hockey. We will never beat them in being snoots but we did beat them in the one thing in this world they are proud of. **** them and their Stupid *** Prime Minister.

Thats my point, though. If the old Soviet Union were involved in today's Olympics, we could boo them in figure skating and curling while waiting for the hockey to start.
I won't begrudge your choices, but I could give zero flicks about figure skating and curling. Yesterday's hockey final was exactly the very first and very last bit of olympic programming I watched.

The summer olympics are far more compelling for me.

I watched almost zero of yhe Olympics. I dont even care about the Hockey now that its just an NHL All star game.

Im saying the whole event would be more entertaining if we had a rooting interest in the medal counts again.

I mean, Norway set a new record for gold medals, and their cross country skier set a record with 6 golds in 6 events...but its Norway. Good for them, I guess.

Those bastards are still talking sh*t about it. "I think we all know who the best team today really was." Get out of here with that whiney sore loser bullcrap. The better team is the one that won the 17ing gold medal. What color is your medal a$$h0le?
Right. They went out on the ice and played it out for almost 62 minutes. Hellebuyck was lights out, and USA won. That means that, in fact, the USA had the better team. Maybe not by much, and maybe not on any other day, but when it MATTERED, the USA had the better team. “Scoreboard, MFers!”

ETA: we won’t even bring up the 5-3 advantage that Canada had for a minute and a half where they couldn’t capitalize. Better team my àsś

Well, they were the best team if you watched the game. Now that being said, the oldest cliche in the book holds true: The best team doesn't always win. In that game Connor Hellebuyck was the best player on the ice, and he carried his team with him.

Last time I checked Goalie is a pretty important part of the team.

Canada dominated the ice for the second and third periods, for sure. They dominated possession and dominated shots on goal. They also had a freaking five on three power play advantage and a couple of breakaways. But the US had the best goalie in the world. And that's the great equalizer.

Norway and Sweden were absolute bosses in cross country skiing. Norway led with 41 total medals and 25 of them were cross country and biathlon. Sweden 18 medals 13 in cross and biathlon.

No, BOTH tell the story. The goalie was the difference. He was absolutely incredible.

I don't totally disagree with you. But when you're on the losing team and you come out saying you're the better team, it's just not a good look. And that's putting it mildly. Maybe last week you were the better team. Maybe you'll be the better team next week. But yesterday, the USA was the better team. And that's all that matters.

Norway scooped up the medals for cross country skiing (14) and biathlon (11). France with the biathlon. Netherlands cleaned house in speed skating. Germany with the bobsled and luge. Somewhat like swimming in the Summer Olympics, athletes can rack up the medals. Dude from Norway got 6 medals in cross-country snow skiiing.

Showing the medal count by country is not really reflective of the final results, IMO.

List of medals given per sport:
  • Freestyle Snow Skiing: 45
  • Speed Skating: 42
  • Cross Country snow skiing: 36
  • Biathlon: 33
  • Snowboard: 33
  • Alpine snow skiing: 30
  • Short track speed skating: 27
  • Ski jumping: 18
  • Bobsled: 16
  • Figure skating: 15
  • Luge: 15
  • Nordic combined: 9
  • Curling: 9
  • Skeleton: 9
  • Ski mountaineering: 9
  • Ice Hockey: 6

Great info! How come bobsled is not a multiple of 3?
