It's winter in Rio. It's just inside the tropics so it's not like it gets really cold, but it's in the mid 60s there today. Wet and wearing almost nothing, that's pretty cold.
Watching the women's soccer team play Sweden. Wherever they are, it's nippley.

Edit: They are playing in Brasilia. 580 miles from Rio. I know they use area facilities but, dang!

I would argue baseball (which is coming back next Olympics). The underdog's pitcher being on their game is enough for an upset.

True. The low scoring in soccer makes an upset more likely than it might otherwise be, but .600 is a very good record for a baseball team and last year's premier league winner had 23 wins, 12 draws, and only 3 losses. Even if those draws go 50/50 in a shootout, they'd still have had a .763 record.

You have to score at least one run to win in baseball. Imagine a baseball game that ends 0-0 and they decide it by a race around the bases. That's soccer.
More like deciding baseball with a home run derby. The penalty shootout is a bad way to end games but a necessary way because players are only conditioned to play 90 mins. After that fatigue is huge where baseball plays sit on the bench and stand sill in a field 90% of the game. Plus the most common result in soccer is 1-0.

I sorta admire the way Serbia is playing this basketball game and I also find it maddening.

It's like watching one of those NCAA games with Princeton.

yes it is

our guys aren't quite as dominant as in years past; too many newbies (new to the Olympics) maybe? I know there are some different rules that can be confusing

Melo seems to be taking over now

With the zone, the foul-on-every-possession strategy, and scrubbing the clock on every possession, it's impossible to get any rhythm or pace. Throw in a hot shooting night from 3 and it's a close game.

It's a sound strategy
true
hate it though, lol

actually nervous here

Best shooter wide open. We deserved for that game to go to overtime. Those last minutes were absolute dogshit. Both execution and coaching. Still no clue why they went short, and then ran isolation O. It was like we were trying to give it away.

The way that game played out, it was a crowd t-shirt gimmick away from being any random Super Tuesday SEC West game, right down to our coach playing with his butthole instead of adjusting and coaching, and yet still winning.

Never a doubt, though. Even if it had gone to overtime. If it goes OT, that "foul every trip" strategy would have ended up with Serbia unable to field a team.

That was like being on the wrong end of Hoosiers there for a minute. Luckily Jimi Chitonovich blew the open shot.

If the Serbs had tried the picket fence, the uninspired, poorly coached Americans would have fallen for it.

poorly coached? how can they be poorly coached? Why, we have the greatest college basketball coach, ever, leading this team.

Dennis Hopper with a fifth of Old Crow aboard could have handled that last possession better with a timeout to diagram it.

I didn't get to see the whole game, but there are ways with much quicker and more talented players to force the pace and impose a rhythm on the game. From what I saw the USA was perfectly willing to play Serbia's game.

Of course you know I was being a bit sarcastic :)

I could've coached them better -USA has played the pace of each of the last three teams they played, and it near bit them in the arse.

Maybe Durant et al should say eff you to Ratface and play it their way
