When your team wins it is exciting. When your team loses in PKs it just feels arbitrary, and like you were cheated out of a worthy effort.

I dunno....don't even watch much soccer but appreciate PKs as just being a part of the game -- like not being good at free throws can cost you -- as UK fans we know what that feels like, so you'd be better good at it so when it counts, you're ready...

England clearly choked that PK situation away... I mean, having a 19yo take the final try ??

What I mostly like in the World Cup in the earlier rounds, and other tournament formats is the concept of "goal differentials" helping decide who advances or not; i.e. it keeps players playing, which could open opportunities for scoring for either team...

Yeah, there is no solution. Whoever designed a game that lasts 90 minutes and a "nil-nil" tie is one of the most common outcomes was a Sadist. Or a masochist. Or both.
I think the solution has to be changing rules to make the game more offensive friendly.

Off sides by inches is ridiculous. It should be if any part of the offensive players body is equal to the defensive player, then no offside. Ball ricochets off a defensive player and falls to an offside offensive player, tough break defense.
No more throw ins unless you want to. Make it where every throw in can be kicked like a free kick. Would be a lot more corner kick type plays into the box.
As many substitutes as a team wants. Let subs come and go, keep players fresher.

Got a good look at women's softball in these Olympics. Good lord what a boring game controlled by pitching and defense. Most Americans think soccer is the same.

I like college softball. It’s fast paced and if helps UK is a top 15 team. But what I hate is when 1 team has one dominate pitcher and she throws every game

I despise soccer and won’t watch but if the USA wins, then that’s great.

Track and field for me. Regular volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, rowing are all great.

Beach volleyball (except for ogling some butt), 3 on 3 basketball, soccer, skateboarding, basketball(since they let the elitist NBA asswipes take over) can all get bent. Olympic golf is stupid as well and I’m a huge golf fan.

Why the soccer hate? Just the women’s team or soccer in general? My oldest player and that’s what got me liking it.

Just soccer. Never found it appealing at all. Probably more a total lack of interest rather than hate.

Soccer sucks even without the extracurricular crap thrown in. I hate any sport that plays keep away for most of the game and acts like they got shot when there's contact. Watching soccer is like watching a Dean Smith 4 corners offense in basketball. They created a shot clock to stop that. If they had a shot clock with less players on the field it might make it more appealing to me.

You realize how big the field is right?

I mentioned it in a past thread about soccer to shrink the field. The playing field is to big.

I say it's more of an athletic competition than golf.

Who is next? Seems like these last 2 wins were givens. I have not watched. Are we getting better?
According to FIBA site, teams will be drawn August 2nd for quarterfinal brackets. However, based on cross-group classification, it appears USA may play Spain in the quarters.

As far as improvement, I think so. While France loss served as a proverbial wake-up call, USA past two wins resulted in blow-outs. Just now against CZE, Team USA athleticism overwhelmed the Czech squad. Game more closely resembled Georgetown College vs UK at Rupp.

I think it is impressive that the USA is #2 overall in the winter olympics considering the large majority of the country lives in an area where it would be impossible to train properly.

True. Team USA usually produces overall good results during winter games. Norway, with 5 million current population and 3.2 million folks in 1952, seems even more impressive, in my opinion.

LOL, I had heard he had a horrible swing, but never saw it.... that's horrible!
It was even worse than that at times.

Stan Utley got him on track over a couple years, apparently.

The crazy thing is that his swing was fine and then out of nowhere it wasn't. I think I would've quit.

He worked with Hank Haney on a reality show specifically retooling his swing. Did not work.

Congrats to the small island nation of Jamaica, who once again has the three (3!!!) fastest women in the world!! What an amazing coincidence that the three fastest women would all come from such a small place. Wonder how they manage to do that year in and year out???

[Does Bob Baffert train them? Just wondering a bit]

Counterpoint: what exactly makes you think that the Jamaicans can figure out how to defeat the people who do the tests? It’s not like Jamaica is a hot bed of biomedical innovation.
