Congrats to the small island nation of Jamaica, who once again has the three (3!!!) fastest women in the world!! What an amazing coincidence that the three fastest women would all come from such a small place. Wonder how they manage to do that year in and year out???

[Does Bob Baffert train them? Just wondering a bit]
It's the elite bobsled athletes they take their runners from.

Another counterpoint. Jamaica is a relatively small island where slaves were brought to cultivate sugar. Is it possible that they brought a bunch of people who happened to be really fast and then that group of people spent the next 400 years crating generations of really fast runners?

Just caught the post game of US vs. Canada women's soccer, where we lost 1-0.

Did I hear right that the only shot on goal by Canada was a successful PK? If true . . . good Lord, would have rather had a root canal. I appreciate the skill and athleticism, but real hard for me to get invested in a sport where an attempt to score is considered an unusual event.

WTH is with this Russian Olympic committee? Either Russia is banned or not?
I think ROC is made up of Russian athletes who did not dope, "did not" while Russia itself was banned b/c of doping so any wins by ROC don't count as being earned by Russia.

It’s called defense. But look at the bright side. Old white men are having a great day. They openly rooted against a US national team and they got their wish.

Team looked like absolute garbage the entire Olympics. Never will root against Americans, but you have to wonder if the kneeling, and the backlash, caused them to lose focus.

I have never seen a USWNT perform like that in a big tournament. Never.

I think the women’s soccer team is just starting to show its age. Too many players on the wrong side of 30 and - for whatever reason - the World Cup/Olympic double is hard to do.

Well, one fan's defense is another fan's complete lack of action, so I guess we will agree to disagree. A lot more interested in Track and Field anyway. Taped replays are up at 8 PM correct?

Not sure I agree but could be the case. Plenty of youth on that team but Lloyd, Rapinoe and Morgan are getting up in age. And they are the scorers.

  • Was the USWNT struggling before the Olympics or is just a bad run? Hard to say had the wrong lineup when they never seemed to lose. They kind of remind me of the men's basketball team - hard to get up for games when you are used to kicking the crap out of everyone. Difference being the NBA guys have the NBA to look forward to - this and the WC is pretty much the Super Bowl and NBA playoffs of women's soccer.
  • I was not rooting against the women's soccer team. I want the overall gold title against the Chinese. But the fact people were shows how off-putting the women's team's behavior was. Stick to sports and everybody gets along.

Team USA 95, Spain 81 in the quarterfinals. Kevin Durant scored 29. Jason Tatum added 13 points, Jrue Holiday 12 and Damian Lillard 11 for Team USA.

Ricky Rubio dumped in 38 for Spain.

Next up: Australia.

Go USA!

I think the Olympic Games has been a great thing, not only for the USA, but for the world. I'm glad they didn't get cancelled again. All of us needed something we could unite behind as a break from covid fatigue, and the Olympics has done that.

After a bad game one with foul trouble, Durant has been carrying this team (on the offensive end at least). I'd called him out and said he needs to act like the best player in the world and be that Jordan/Kobe/Lebron guy on the team. Happy to see him stepping up game after game.

I'm rooting for a Luka versus the USA gold medal game. The games obviously hit at a terrible time for Team USA basketball with the NBA Playoffs having just ended before the games started. So I'm not surprised that team USA hasn't looked like a cohesive unit at times.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Luka, been impressive how he's carrying the 16th ranked team to a likely medal. US will have a HARD time defending him but if USA plays like they're capable of they should be able to outscore him.

The 400 hurdles in women and men were the highlight of the Olympics so far, both incredible races won in WR fashion, hell the 2nd place finisher in each race would have set the WR, I think, and the no. 3 guy in the men's final would have held the WR 8 weeks ago with the time he posted in the final.
