(WTVA) -- A walk-on football player for the University of Mississippi collapsed and died Friday morning during a conditioning workout.
20 year old Bennie F. Abram who transferred to Ole Miss from Itawamba Community College died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
UM officials tell WTVA.com the junior was about 15 minutes into the conditioning portion of the workout when trainers noticed he was experiencing some difficulty. Trainers began helping him and called 911. He died several hours later.
Abram's was an exercise science major from Southaven.
Head football coach Houston Nutt released the following statement: "Bennie was a fine young man and a hard worker. He was a great personto be around and his loss is so tragic. Our hearts and prayers go outto the family and all who knew Bennie."
