OM's conference baseball schedule

Without a doubt they've had an easy SEC slate

as easy as it can be anyway. Missing out on Vandy and Florida is huge. Then getting the tougher series at home with the exception of us.

They should find a way to expand the conference schedule to 39 games and let everyone play a full round-robin.

Whether that's cutting down from 4 non-conference weekends to just 1, or playing some conference games in the midweek, or something else/combination, I don't know, but a perfectly balanced schedule with no divisions would be ideal.

39 would never happen. And that really is too many games. What I'd like to see is go to a 33-game schedule where you play 7 teams 3 games each and 6 teams 2 games each. The 2-game series could be paired up with a travel buddy system and played on a Thur-Fri-Sat-Sun schedule. For example, on Thur-Fri, MSU plays at Bama and UM plays at Auburn, then on Sat-Sun, MSU is at Auburn and UM at Bama.

as that good. even with our record i'm a bit surprised at how high we are ranked. maybe the "experts" see something i don't.

I understand where you are coming from but the results speak for themselves. I

think Bianco is getting all he can get out of this bunch and is doing the best job he has done to date. I think the same on Cohen.
I don't want to jinx him and he will probably make me regret this but Cohen has done a good job this year and is moving the program
in the right direction at a rapid pace. I think he is on the right track, finally.

I don't know if its just baseball but coaching seems more

erratic than other sports. we frequently call for bianco's head then he finally gets to omaha. you guys were (again) after cohen early this yr and right now ya'll are playing lights out. seems in football or basketball you don't get those wild gyrations in results that drive fans nuts.

Reminds me of our 14 team but with a better ooc schedule to bolster rpi. 14 team had about 4 or 5 guys carry us to 18 wins in conf despite not being that great. Ooc sched was awful though keeping us from

The strangest thing this season has been that we've basically overhauled our rotation, still don't have it set in stone, and have still won so many games while also batting in the bottom half of the league.

It's basically been due to our bullpen and the fact that we have been far better at "clutch" hitting than overall hitting, things that traditional stats don't really see.

The whole position is spelled out here in detail from when the expanded schedule first came out. I'd love to hear why it's such a "terrible" idea.

Well for starters 36 games doesn't solve the issue of not playing everybody. Teams still miss one other team. So if the argument for an expanded schedule is to play everybody, then this already fails that.

Second, playing a game that counts for conference standings in the midweek goes against everything teams are familiar with. It's change for the sake of change.

I think the biggest issue with your 36-game schedule would be the long mid-week road trips to places like South Carolina and Florida for just 1 game. Also, don't see the SEC ever wanting to go to that many conference games. My 33-game schedule is more workable, but I don't know that the SEC would even be willing to add 3 games to the conference schedule. Personally, I think either would be better than what we have now, but it appears the SEC just doesn't care about having a competitively balanced schedule.

And State has played 4 good teams to date and is 6-6 against them. The differences aren't that large in the schedules. Yes, State's is tougher to this point. Ole Miss didn't play Vandy or Florida, but we did play USC. That will really be the difference in the schedules in the end: State played 1or2 and 3 in the East, Ole Miss played 1or2 and 4.

Now, hey, maybe Ole Miss loses the final 5 games and just finishes at .500 while State wins out and finishes at 21-9. Who knows

I'd be okay with a 33 game schedule and no SEC tournament. Or 39 game schedule with no SEC tournament and only 2 nonconference weekends, but that puts SEC teams at a disadvantage since other conferences aren't doing the same. We'd have some teams ineligible for an at-large because they are under .500 overall with almost all of their losses being in conference.

Nice attempt at spin. In the East, there's the top 3 and the other 4. We play 2 of the top 3, you play 1. That's a very real scheduling difference.

Nope, I would say that it was a pretty average SEC schedule. Not as tough as some teams, not as easy as others.

FAburn for example plays Vandy, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky from the East.

But then A&M plays Florida, USC, Vandy, and Georgia.

Ole Miss' is in the middle of that.

What the hell??? There are 7 teams within 2-1/2 games of first place and you're telling me 3 road games vs. Vandy isn't a big difference from 3 home games vs. Kentucky??? That's 10% of the schedule, and potentially several places in the conference standings.
