It really is crazy. Second in the SEC in average and third in the country in strikeouts per nine innings and fifth in strikeouts per walk ratio T-16th in the country in homeruns. If you are hitting for average, hitting homeruns, and striking out a ton of people while not walking a lot of people, how do you manage to turn that into a record where you don't host?

We lost a lot of close games early in the year and have quite a few blowout wins.

I think we’re 3-6 in games decided by one run. Win 2-3 more of those and we jump from a 3 seed to a host. The margins are that slim sometimes.

Also we are 12th in the SEC in fielding percentage.

This team could use a special moment that makes it really fun. Something big to go our way.

Need to savor that moment and that Auburn win. May not achieve that again in our lifetime.

Fielding errors have cost us a few games, along with poor outings from some of our pitching.

I think if we had a fielding percentage that we expect out of an MSU squad, this team would be sitting at 18-19 SEC wins and hosting.
Does 2 more SEC wins get us in the convo?

17-13?

I'm not smart enough to know what our RPI would look like if we won 2 more games, or which two we'd need to win to make our RPI good enough. I know that we could and should have won at least 3 more games than we did, and had we won those and finished with 18 or 19 I don't think there's ever been a team win that many that didn't host.

Would be interesting to see how States batting average with RISP and with 2 outs stacks up in conference. Or frequency of strikeouts with runners on base. Guessing all of those categories would be much lower.

The bullpen lost us a few games where we had leads.
That and some bad defense probably cost us 4-5 wins and if we win those games, we’re hosting - possible consideration for Top 8 seed

A lot of those games we had the lead and lost it.

We did have several times where baserunners reverted to t-ball where you are the last batter of the inning, so you keep running till you score or are tagged out.
