Sending instructions out to Secretary of State Tillerson, Defense Sec'y Mattis, and our allies that international waters in the South China Sea being claimed by China are now going to be kept open with deployment of a major aircraft carrier and strike group to the area.

Big difference from what we've seen the last 8 years as China essentially told the world; "stay away, this is our territory."

Well, not anymore.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out on the island building. Chinese tactic to defend recognized limits by extending the reach of "mainland China" to these artificial archipelagos.

I think the intent is to let China know it's not going to be "business as usual" in the South China Sea. Not saying we will dispute their claims over the artificial Islands, but we will most certainly interfere with their attempts to use them as a strategic military asset.

That's the only reason China built them in the first place.
