On signing day, remember Mullen is our best coach since Allyn McKeen.

Last night, I posted that one of the best things about Mullen's winning the last 3 games is there are no more posts about firing Mullen. Before those wins, it seemed like every other post was a fire Mullen post.

I put my comment under one of the numerous “Mullen is an Idiot” types of posts generated before the last 3 games in order to show how many posts were about firing Mullen before he won the last three. The administrator closed the thread and indicated that I should start a new thread on old posts like that. So this is the new thread on that topic.

Before the old thread was closed, there was a comment “wait to signing day” suggesting that if this year's recruiting class is not a good one, we need to crank up the fire Mullen posts again.

The truth of the matter is Mullen is a smart coach who has done very well. For example, he turned Tebow who was basically a linebacker into a Heisman trophy winner and a first round draft choice as a QB. He turned Chris Relf into a more than adequate QB. (Do you remember how bad Relf was before Mullen got here?) And he has now turned Dak into potentially the best QB State has ever had. And maybe the best QB in the SEC next year. And this does not include what his staff did for 3 star recruit Gabe Jackson or 2 star recruit Benardrick McKinney.

Look at Mullen's results. The best coach since Allyn McKeen. That is a fact. And he did it without good facilities to recruit to. With the new indoor practice facility, expanded stadium, Mullen as coach and the great State fan base, we can now compete with anyone.

So on signing day, when the recruiting gurus comment about State's recruiting class being at the bottom of the SEC, please don't start up the fire Mullen posts. Just smile knowing that we are headed in the right direction.

Mullen needs be competitive. When it looked like his teams weren't performing as well as they should be or could be, I think wanting to fire him was reasonable. I went to the South Carolina game and I would have been okay with trying someone new after some of the crap in that game. Later, finding out about Dak's mom put it in perspective a little bit.

I think a lot of our recruiting despair in recent years was about Ole Miss hype running on a 24/7 loop and wearing us down. Knowing we can still beat them even after their suspiciously amazing classes will keep this year's recruiting results in perspective. With the limited info I have about who we've recruited and who might be the big flip to Ole Miss this year, I'm feeling pretty good.

Tebow was 1) a 5 star QB with his choice of schools. 2) a UF Gator despite Mullen.

Overall I'm with you, but that was a stretch. We've got to quit associating Mullen with being HC at Florida. "He" didn't do anything. Urban did.

Very good post

and I am being honest when I say that. You pointed all DM's positive attributes and for once did not compare anything to Ole Miss. I know OM fans mention that all of the time and obviously there are OM fans who do the same with State.

If either team is ever going to be great, we have to look at the bigger picture. It seems that both sides have this thought that before we can compete against Alabama or LSU, we have beat the other in-state team. In truthfulness, if either team is ever gonna play for something big (SEC Championship, BCS bowl), we're gonna have to beat those teams before we even play each other.

Flame away

Yep. And Mitch Mustain was the #1 QB according to Scout that year. And Brent Schaffer was a 5 star QB too. How did those 5 stars turn out that year?

Admittedly, Tebow is not as good of an example as the resurrection of Relf.

But even though Tebow had a lot of physical ability (and Scout had him as a 5 star) , he was essentially a good high school QB who some college teams probably wanted as a linebacker. Mullen was able to turn into a Heisman QB.

This is shown by the fact that Tebow clearly did not have the ability to make it in the NFL as a QB, yet Mullen got the most out of him in college.

Tebow did the same thing for Mullen that Dak is about to do. Make him look like a hell of a lot better coach than he really is and probably get him a better job.

One time I heard someone say that "sarcasm is a weak man's way to criticize."

Of course, that is not always true.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that statement as it relates to negative comments on this board about Mullen?

You can add to Mullen’s resume among a lot of other things.

For example, he took the same team that was in disarray and had been embarrassed by Ole Miss 45-0 and beat them the next year 41–27. And the game was not as close as the score.

We are lucky to have Mullen.

One more thing.

Prescott is the real deal. We always knew his running could hurt a defense on a designed run and especially when he getsout of the pocket.
<o:p></o:p>
And thanks to Mullen, since coming here, he has greatly improved his release and footwork. He has also improved his accuracy and now readsdefenses well. And he is a great leader that his teammates like.<o:p></o:p>
The schedule lines up well for us. Dak will put up somegreat numbers.<o:p></o:p>
It might not be a bad bet to put a grand on him to win the Heisman.<o:p></o:p>

You won't last long around here if sarcasm bothers you. I'm not implying you will get banned. You'll look for another place.

First, I have been following this board for about a year. And sarcasm does not bother me.

Second, this board is clearly the most fun board around. Y'all do a great job with it. I like that there are essentially "no rules." And the rules you have are fun ones. Also, I got to mention that hump day is something to "look" forward to.

I find it interesting that all my posts were strongly pro State and pro Mullen. But I get a strong negative reaction from the Coach Killers on this board. And that is what I was trying to do. Get a rise out of the Coach Killers so that people can identify them for what they are when signing day comes around .

You're getting a "strong negative reaction" from people who have consistently supported Mullen as well because your posts come across as pretentious. Sack N City is here at last to separate the wheat from the chaff!

I don't know how it is you think you are getting a rise out of Coach Killers... but whatever floats your boat. Most people are making fun of your grammer or the fact your posts look like a cluster 17..

That's still insanity. Tebow was a 5 star QB who at least Bama wanted as a QB who was the youngest person to win a Heisman at the time he won it. He was a freak straight out of high school his freshman year. Don't sit here and tell me that he overcame his inability to play the NFL game to become a great college QB. The list of "greatest college QB's" is riddled with guys who weren't even drafted and never played a down in the NFL.

Tebow did Tebow with the help of Urban and the superstars around him with a little help from Mullen... Who almost prompted him to go to a different school (look it up, they initially hated each other).

Look, I like Mullen and I'm happy with Mullen... But don't sit here and say "Mullen created Tebow" "Mullen created Alex Smith" and "Mullen's multiple BCS National Championships"... He was a backseat assistant. It's worth noting that he tutored those guys and was at least a contributor to those teams but his list of accomplishments began in 2009. We didn't hire Urban Meyer.

AFDawg: You are correct. My posts were way too strong. And I posted way too many times. I am sorry that I offended some on this board. I got carried away trying to get a rise out of people to make my point.

But I do hope State people won't "pile on" Mullen when the recruting gurus talk negatively about State on signing day. And they will talk negatively, as we all know.

Some people will be happy to know that I don't plan to post any more until signing day. I am not pouting. This is a great, fun board. Just nothing more to say at this time.

Well, sack

I dare say I can't speak for everyone, but the majority round here were irritated by several things. Maybe I'll miss or omit some. Most others are caveats.

-not beating ranked SEC teams in tons of attempts. Sooner or later you should win one out of dumb luck.
-not finishing recruiting or holding onto guys we need.
-not finishing games with a lead.
-really awful defensive schemes and effectiveness.
-doing the same things over and over with poor results. Then doing that all over again in future games.
-really poor 2nd half adjustment or no in game adjustments at all.
-quitting or laying down in games. aTm '12 comes to mind. aTm this year was what you ask for.
-bad personel choices (this is my trumpet). LDP being the lead dog with the other choices we have/had. There are other spots.
-using our personnel all wrong. I.E. Throwing fades to tubby when we have several guys over 6'3" and the bear.
-getting in the shotgun in short yardage. Running TR.

That's my stab at what was in our complaint box. Those are all pretty valid gripes. Cheers.

Tebow did the same thing for Mullen that Dak is about to do. Make him look like a hell of a lot better coach than he really is and probably get him a better job.

Thats exactly what will happen. He should be bringing Dak breakfast in bed. He knows that Dak can put him in the elite coaches conversation.

I don't have the records other than this link and memory

http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/f/misstate.htm

I just think about the ones that should never have been close that we sort of quit playing, and almost lost. Maybe, I should have technically said it another way.

Just a few that should have been over earlier instead of nail biters.
