C’mon man. You have been extra prickly lately. Eddie was one of the all-time greats and a major reason I’m a sports fan at all. He made one of the greatest RU teams of all time go. He’ll definitely get a standing ovation from me.
Sorry. He took a job and was paid a decent amount for it and didnt put anywhere near adequate time in. He acted as if he was entitled.

Sorry

I just hope some idiots don't boo Eddie because of his coaching disaster. This is all about Eddie the player along with Mike and Hollis

Think most people appreciate what Eddie tried to do. There wasn’t a ton of upside leaving the NBA to run headfirst into a dumpster fire at his alma mater. Think real fans have nothing but gratitude and love for Eddie.

You’re forgiven. But he’s being honored for something else. Let it go. To be honest, he was hired into an almost impossible situation as a caretaker and did recruit enough talent for Pike to mold into a competitive team that created some buzz the first year.

I wasnt alive. Still appreciate Eddie as a player and for his attempt at salvaging our program.
I was 7, not much older than FIG, but that team sparked my interest in sports when I formed all my rooting allegiances. That team brought the whole area together. My family would all watch the games on NJ PBS to see if they could go undefeated.

Agree Pete. Was 13 when they went to final four and lived down the street from Mr.Gruninger
who took me to some games. Remember Rutgers vs Duquesne with the great Norm Nixon.
Damn, Norm! NBA champion. I guess we’ll never know what went down with his exile to the Clippers - probably just an evolution of the team. Can’t trust the HBO series.

Ya know what ive actually thought about.

Eddie clearly has no ill will towards Rutgers for getting fired. Hes been active and friendly with pike and the program since that time. Eddie is actually a very good offensive mind. Hed be a good assistant to bring on to help install and offense. Hes highly thought of as an offensive mind.

I was in 6th grade during the '75-'76 season. I wore a shirt with a Scarlet Fever decal on it way too many times to school that year...lol. The decal was a giveaway in The Home News that my mom ironed on to one of my favorite shirts.

WCTC organized a charity promotion with Rutgers at Menlo Park Mall. It was a madhouse. For a buck you got to shoot a free throw with a Rutgers player. I waited in line for a looooonnnngggg time before I got the opportunity to attempt my foul shot. Hollis Copeland was the player I got teamed up with. What a thrill for an 11-year-old!

I became a diehard RU basketball fan that year and I've been one ever since.

How do you know Hollis doesn't still talk about that time he shot free throws with PiscatawayMike?

Am all for honoring our past stars but how Is this different from a having an Athletics Hall of Fame? I don’t see the point of a Knights of Honor.
Rutgers has to keep digging deep on these things given our historical stellar sports achievements ya know.
For the record I was 17 and I certainly appreciate that team (came to RC the very year after). We can book the 50th anniversary (God Willing for them ) in 2026. But it is time to create some new material. (sorry. 47 years of mostly crap results has soured me).

It is a little amusing how many times and how many different ways we find to honor the '76 team. Not that they don't deserve it, but I do look forward to a time when we'll have some more teams to celebrate. In the meantime, I'll be there on Sunday enthusiastically cheering for them again.

Between 1976-1977 I lived with 5 different people and I attended 4 different schools for 1st grade. Philadelphia 76ers were the only thing I remembered.
I had that Dr. J SI poster of him as a Sixer dunking over some Portland Trail Blazers - Bob Gross I believe. And you say you don't like the NBA...

I loved the NBA.

The 3 point shot has slowly killed the game. I was definitely a fan when it came out. Players who are playing now are born with it and have mastered it.

It is what it is and I realize I am in the minority.

Looking at the point per possession numbers for college over the past 5 years you can see it having more and more of an influence.
