i thought that was a pretty clever marketing idea. what exactly was the ncaa's gripe about it in the endzones? why did they say the banned it or did they in classic ncaa fashion not give a reason?

I think it was to prevent it from being uncontrollable advertising.

I don't know why they would be paranoid about it though. Every hashtag reference I have seen was directly related to the the school or its traditions. It's not like schools were getting paid to put #DRINKPEPSI on the field...

True. The reasonable thing would be simply banning commercial ads...

...and allow references to the school itself. Is #HAILSTATE doing any more harm in the end zone than BULLDOGS? The hashtag thing isn't my cup of tea, but the NCAA is being ridiculous on this one...

agree. seems like another instance of the ncaa nuking a nat. if it was about commercialism they could have smply done as you suggest. but i cannot let the irony of the ncaa worrying about commericalism in college football pass without comment.....................

I agree. And I think it's pretty short-sighted to self-impose a restriction on your own marketing.

Indeed. I'd expect nothing less from the non profit multi-billion dollar institution that is the NCAA.

I don't think they do, but Oregon State and Texas Tech both have...

corporate logos on their field. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.
