There is a "proposal" out there to put Schools in 8 team Pods by geography (basically districts), playing a 7 game schedule and the winner of each Pod goes to the playoffs. Below are the suggested 8A pods - Who are your playoff teams?

(A) - Barrington, Dundee Crown, Warren, Huntley, Stevenson, Palatine, Waukegan, Zion Benton

(B) - Bartlett, GBN, Elgin, Conant, Fremd, Lake Park, StC East, South Elgin

(C) - Taft, Evanston, GBS, Niles ND, Maine South, Niles West, Loyola, New Trier

(D) - Morton, Curie, Lane, York, Leyden, Hinsdale C, Lyons, OPRF

(E) - East Aurora, West Aurora, Neuqua, Waubonsee, Oswego, Oswego East, Plainfield E, Plainfield N

(F) - Metea Valley, Bolingbrook, Downers South, Glenbard West, Glenbard East, Naperville C, Naperville N

(G) - Belleville E, Edwardsville, Joliet Central, Joliet West, Lockport, Minooka, Ofallon, Plainfield S.

(H) - Brother Rice, Marist, Bloom, LWE, H-F, Sandburg, Stagg, Rich Township

Yes. Its from the Souc. I actually like it a lot with the 11 week model. where top 2 from each pod go to a 16 team playoff.
I'd certainly prefer either the B or C options, but for arguments sake, picking only one team from each pod is pretty tough, especially H.

I knew you were an East fan, but not crazy :)
It's my adopted team. I don't really have a team. I would have been Romeoville, but I moved to upstate NY for my HS years and back soon thereafter to Plainfield and then Villa Park. So my teams are Romeoville, all 4 Plainfields, and Willowbrook.

That said I really do like the East uniforms.

A high number of my friends in college were Willowbrook grads from the late 80s/early 90's and the RB (now wrestling at Northwestern) is the son/nephew of a family I grew with in Aurora, I have a soft spot for that program as well.

No wonder it looked familiar. But I meant the playoff. It makes each game count.

In districts that is how the playoffs qualifiers would be determined. If there are 8 districts per class and they want 32 qualifiers the top 4 in each district would qualify. The reason it’s so tight in this example is due to them limiting the number of qualifiers to 8 or 16 to shorten the playoffs due to covid.

Based on G alone I think this is bad. There is some huge travel between some of those teams

No proposal is perfect, however, did you pick any winners?
My late night mind must not have been working, I completely forget to add them.

Warren, Fremd, Loyola, Morton, Neuqua, Bolingbrook, Edwardsville, and LWE

Now keep in mind I’m a Southern Illinois guy, so I’ve not seen most of these teams play. But I like to think that my lack of any biases might make up for not seeing many of them play in person

I really hope Oswego gets to play Neuqua at some point.

I’m glad you pointed out you are a Southern Illinois guy, as that explains your Morton pick. This is not the downstate Morton HS, this is the J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero. They would have to have an unbelievably successful season to win the “D” pod. Hinsdale Central beat them 48-10 last year, and it wasn’t even that close.

(B) - Glenbard North
(C) - Loyola
(D) - Hinsdale Central
(E) - Waubonsie Valley
(F) - Glenbard West
(G) - Edwardsville
(H) - Lincoln-Way East

And if the playoffs were bracketed in the A through H order, the semifinalists would be Palatine, Loyola, Glenbard West and Lincoln-Way East. The championship game would be Lincoln-Way East over Loyola. There, you see, we don't even need to play the season. Hah!

Its always going to be that way since 61 of the 64 teams are Chicago suburbs or schools in Chicago and 3 are St. Louis Area teams. The only remedy is to drop the 3 St. Louis area teams to 7A and move the 3 highest populated 7A teams from Chicago and the suburbs to 8A.

I hope you are right about Palatine, but I'm not so optimistic about the outcome this season unfortunately.

That would make a lot more sense for why nobody else picked them, thanks for letting me know. Based on that, I'll go with Hinsdale Central instead

WV has lost quite a bit of talent and has a new coach (albeit from within). Them winning would be impressive.

Boy, couldn't disagree with you more. I think this year's team will rival the 2012 or 2016 squads.

They've had 6 or 7 guys who will be seniors who've been starting since sophomores on varsity, lots of starters returning on both sides of the ball, a top notch QB, lightning speed and decent size at all the skills positions, and big, quality lineman. Everyone knew 2018 would be a down year, and the expectations for 2019 were higher than 4-5 - but they started out sluggish and moved a few people around and were an entirely different team by the second half of the season.

I just didn't see what I wanted when they played at Fremd last year I guess.

As long as the kids are able to play and compete it's better than cancelling the season like was done with Track and Baseball or moving it to Spring and interfering with those sports.

Let's just play and like back in the 1970s, the Conference Champion was the only playoff representative in each Conference with two at large berths total in each Class.
